AIIMS question paper leak
The Centre has requested a probe, on 26th July 2017, into the recent issue of AIIMS question paper leak. It has sought a response from the CBI regarding this issue.
AIIMS Institute, one of the most prestigious medical institutes of India, conducts an entrance examination which is considered to be one of the toughest medical entrances in India. A large number of students toil hard to crack this prestigious examination. This year, it was alleged that the question paper of the examination was leaked during the examination.
Alleged whistleblower of the Vyapam scam, Dr Anand Rai, claimed on May 31, that the question paper of AIIMS medical entrance exam was leaked while the exam was going on. He posted a series of tweets containing screenshots of the question paper, which were allegedly taken during the evening shift of the exam which was conducted on May 28. He also said that he received the screenshots from a source which claimed that the question paper was leaked from a college in Lucknow while the online test was going on. It was said that these leaked questions were circulated outside the examination hall and then an answer key was prepared by solvers outside. The answer key was then claimed to have been circulated to those attempting the exam. Rai also alleged that medical seats of this prestigious institute were being sold. In his tweet, he urged the Prime Minister of India to take necessary action and provide justice to the honest and hard-working students. He demanded that a fresh examination be conducted once the allegations are proved.
AIIMS Institute, in immediate response to this complaint, constituted a committee to verify the facts and look into this issue. Digital evidence was seized when an investigation was carried out by the committee in seven different locations – six in Uttar Pradesh and one in Bihar. The Delhi High Court also directed a CBI probe into this issue. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar specifically directed the CBI to place before it the agency’s status report within a week on the plea. AIIMS Institute has been sought to declare the results of the examination, which were released on 15th June 2017, as invalid and conduct a fresh examination, once the facts are verified. The bench has listed the matter for 16th August 2017.
