All About AIIMS Raipur:

AIIMS Raipur is one of the SIX AIIMS healthcare institutes being established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). With the aim of correcting regional imbalances in healthcare, and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training, the PMSSY planned to set up 6 new AIIMS like institutions in underserved areas of the country. The college is currently functioning under the guidance of the Director Prof. Nitin Madhusudan Nagarkar, MBBS, MS (ENT), DNB (ENT), who is a veteran with more than 10 years of experience.

The Institute is currently operating as the leading tertiary care centre in the state of Chhattisgarh, with expert doctors from different branches of Medicine and Surgery who are continuously working to provide better healthcare services to the underserved population of Chhattisgarh.

Admissions

The institute admitted its first batch of 50 MBBS students in September 2012. Since 2013, it has been admitting 100 MBBS students per year. Aspirants interested in seeking admission in AIIMS Raipur can enroll their name either through the offline or online procedure. You can download the admission form from the official website of the institute. For seeking admission, students have to appear for the entrance exam conducted by the AIIMS itself. Admission is strictly taken on merit basis only.

The AIIMS fees of US $ 75,000/-(divided in 3 equal installments for pre-clinical phase, para clinical phase and clinical phase of MBBS course) will be charged from the foreign national students admitted to MBBS course.

Campus

The sprawling campus comprises of the Hospital Block (consisting of the Main Building, Trauma Block, OPD and Admin Block), AYUSH Block, Mortuary, Medical College, Nursing College and separate hostels for Boys, Girls, Nursing Staff, Residents and Interns.

AIIMS Raipur is spread over an area of 103.63 acres (0.4 km). The hospital and college complex occupies 63.85 acres (0.3 km) while the residential complex is on 39.78 acres (0.2 km) of land. With an easily accessible location in the major city of Raipur, the institute caters to the medical needs of a majority of the population of Central India including Chhattisgarh, parts of eastern Maharashtra (Vidarbha Region), Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

Facilities

The Institute has an excellent Central Library spanned over 3 floors. The lower floor is for the books and general reading section, the middle is for the reading purpose while the top floor houses the state-of-the-art e-library and journal section. More than 4000 medical and nursing books and about 500 books on general topics are available in the library. Wi-Fi internet facility is available in all three floors of the library.

One block each of Type III, IV and V and 2 blocks each of Type I and II are constructed. Faculty members are residing in Type IV and Type V. Non-teaching staff have been accommodated in the Type I and Type II blocks. All these residential quarters are fully occupied. Director Bungalow is also available and occupied. Guest house of AIIMS, Raipur is fully functional and being used by the faculty and guests.

Facilities available at AIIMS Raipur include low cost medical care and treatment, state-of-art Operation Theatres, IPD services, Emergency Services, AYUSH Services (to address the needs of patients through Ayurveda, Homeopathy, etc.).

The AIIMS Cricket Ground, Badminton Court, Volleyball Court, Open Gymnasium, etc. aid in the all-round development of students and staff. The classrooms at IIM Raipur do not just create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning but in a sense nurture the quest for knowledge that the students possess.

AIIMS Hospital

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, has started a system where appointments for outpatient department (OPD) can be booked online. Patients desiring to consult doctors and specialists in the OPD would be able to fix their appointments online. This facility would; however, not be available to for the Ayurvedic, Homeopathic and Dietary departments.

Raipur AIIMS is presently the only hospital among the new six AIIMS opened across the country to start this online appointment system. Patients booking appointments would get a SMS confirmation on their mobile telephone numbers, which they would have to get with them for verification and registration prior to the appointment. The hospital has two departments: Medicine & Surgery with a facility of 60 beds each.

Festivals & Events

The Foundation Day, 24 September, is the most important and celebrated day in the AIIMS Raipur calendar. Various other events have taken place since the birth of the Institute that includes AIIMS Premier League- Annual Cricket League with active participation from students, staff and faculty; it is the largest sport event of the Institute. The first edition was held in 2015 and Batch 2012 emerged champions.

Iridescence is the Cultural Festival of AIIMS Raipur, with students divided in three houses- Illuminati, Oracle and Legion for participating in various contests. The first edition of the event was won by House Illuminati in the year 2015. Other festivals like Holi, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid, Onam, etc. are also celebrated with enthusiasm.

Awards and Recognition

• The Central Library of AIIMS Raipur was awarded the ERMED usage award by the National Medical Library in 2016.
• AIIMS Raipur received the Kayakalp Award by the MOHFW for being one of the cleanest hospitals in the country.

Research Scope

AIIMS Raipur provides a robust infrastructure and conducive atmosphere to facilitate cutting edge research. The institution has its own PhD courses. Intramural seed grants are given to faculty on a competitive basis. Senior faculty members are in charge of these activities. MD/ MS students have mandatory hands on training in research methodology. Faculty research presentations are held once a month by rotation. All randomized drug trials must be registered, cleared through an extremely responsible ethics committee and institutional review board (IRB). All research protocols are available on the website. A Department of Biostatistics, Clinical Epidemiology & Clinical Research Secretariat has been established to facilitate all-round research in all the departments. This department proactively helps the faculty and researchers to design research projects, proformas, data analyses, maturation of research hypotheses, assistance in clinical, field trials and collaborations.

Scholarships

At present, two Central Sector Scholarship schemes of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) for ST students and Top Class Education for ST Students are implemented by this Ministry. Its aim is to provide financial assistance for pursuing higher education of ST students.

The Rajiv Gandhi Fellowships are provided to ST students to take up higher studies after completing Post Graduation, such as M.Phil and Ph.D courses and awarded on the lines of UGC Fellowships for research students pursuing such courses on regular and full time basis.

The Top Class Education for ST Students is intended to encourage meritorious ST students to pursue courses at Graduate/Post Graduate level in identified institutions of excellence, government and private, and in professional fields such as Management, Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Commercial Pilot License Training etc.

In order to remove layers resulting in time lag and facilitate proper control over the implementation and monitoring of the two Central sector scholarship schemes for ST students viz; Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship and Top Class Education, the Ministry has merged these two schemes into a single Central Sector Scheme called “National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students.”
