How Did the BIE Come into Existence?
What we call Plus One and Plus Two exams now was earlier known as Intermediate during the 70s. Most of you must have heard this term frequently being used by your parents or grandparents. Hence the demarcation came to be Secondary, Intermediate or Junior College or Pre-University and College or University Education. In order to manage these segments of education, a suitable restructuring was necessary. Thereby, the office of the Director of Higher Education was bifurcated into the Directorate of Collegiate education and the Directorate of Intermediate Education, which is located in Hyderabad. This was how the BIE came into existence.
What is the Exam Syllabus?
There are various academic programs offered by the board. According to the BIE-AP official website, http://bieap.gov.in/Syllabus.aspx, the subjects offered are as listed below.

How and When are the Exams Conducted by the BIE-AP?
One of the primary responsibilities of the board is to conduct exams for the students each year, in the state of AP. There are 2-course schemes namely Regular and Vocational, which students can take up. The exams are conducted during March-April each year. Once the results are declared, the candidates may apply for recounting as well (in case required).
Initially, the Public or Board exams were conducted only during the end of the 2nd year. However, since 1978-79, the Intermediate Public Examination is being conducted both at the end of 1st year and at the end of the 2nd-year course.
The students are examined in Part-I English, Part-II Second Language and Part-III Group subjects for 500 marks in 1st year and 500 marks in 2nd year in Arts Group, 475 marks in HEG group. They are also examined for 470 marks in 1st year and 530 marks in 2nd year in MPC group, and 440 marks in 1st year and 560 Marks in 2nd year for the BPC group. The percentage of pass marks in each paper is 35. The division in which the candidates are placed is decided on the basis of their passing all the papers in the 1st and 2nd year.
