Birla Institute Of Technology and Science, Dubai campus (BITS Dubai) is a premier engineering institute located in Dubai in UAE. It is one of the campuses of BITS, the other three being at Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa. It is a top-ranked engineering college in India as well as in UAE. BITS Dubai campus was established in 2000 under the purview of the BITS university.
Location
BITS Pilani, Dubai campus is located at Dubai International Academic City. It is 22 minutes (20.5 km) away from the Dubai International Airport. It is well connected to the commercial hub of the city. Also, the campus itself is a very happening place. Initially, the campus was located in Al Ghurair University Campus, then at Dubai Knowledge Village, and to its permanent campus with student housing at Dubai International Academic City in September 2007.
About the Institute
BITS Dubai is one of the four campuses under the BITS University. It was established in the year 2000. BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus is approved by University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and is permitted by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority(KHDA), Government of Dubai. Kumarmangalam Birla and Dr B.S. Jain are the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the institute respectively. Currently, Dr R.N. Saha is the director of the institute.
Admission at BITS Dubai
The application for the admission to the First Degree Programmes is through an online procedure. Interested candidates must apply at the admissions portal with the relevant documents. 10th marks sheet, 12th marks sheet, passport and visa documents, TOEFL/IELTS score for non-English medium schooled applicants are some of the relevant documents. An application fee of Arab Emirates Dirhams (AED) 220 must be paid during the application process. A student at BITS Dubai can also refer his friend for admission. If the referred friend is selected then the student gets a reward for the referral given. For the Higher Degree Programme admissions along with the above-mentioned documents, the candidate must also submit two letters of recommendation and also a 250 words Statement of Purpose. The candidates are selected based on the relevant research work done and their past academic performance. For the Doctoral programme, a similar procedure is followed. If a candidate is doing a part-time or off-campus doctoral programme then he/she must get the consent of the relevant organisations and also the guides to enrol in the programme. BITSAT examination score is only required for the purposes of scholarship and is not necessary for admissions.

Faculty and Infrastructure
BITS Pilani, Dubai campus is equipped with a world-class infrastructure. It has a lush green campus with the hostels very near to the academic section which is housed in the humongous main building. It also has excellent facilities like mess, playgrounds, gyms, lawns, libraries for the benefit of the students. The faculty at BITS Pilani, Dubai campus is very competent enough to nurture the budding engineers of the nation. There are enough opportunities provided to the students to excel in their academic careers. A lot of focus on research is given at this institute. Every department has it’s own Research and Development(R & D) centre. Seminars, Workshops, Industrial Visits are carried out on a regular basis to nurture the research acumen among the students. Much emphasis is put on the training of the students. Students pursuing their bachelor’s degree can work on a thesis for a period of six months in the last year of their studies.
Student Life
Student life at BITS Dubai is a very happening one. The primary focus of the students is academics. But apart from academics students are involved in a lot of extracurricular activities. There are various clubs, chapters of reputed societies for like-minded students. ACM international has it’s own BITS Dubai chapter. IEEE, SAE, ASHRAE, Dot-Net, Linux Users Group are also some of the other international clubs who have chapters hers. Various other clubs like robotics, dramatics, quizzing, F1 club etc. are actively run by the enthusiastic students. An annual BITS mega sports fest is also conducted which sees active participation from the students of other BITS campuses like Hyderabad, Goa and Pilani. Various sporting centres and fitness facilities are also provided for the students.
Placement Process
The placement process of BITS Dubai is very simple and can be summed up in six points or steps as follows :
- Placement Process starts in the month of February
- Companies share Job descriptions and other details through a Job Announcement Form
- Company and Job information are shared with eligible students and those students who are interested apply online
- A mutually agreed date and time for Pre-Placement talk followed by selection process is fixed
- List of selected students is announced as soon as companies share the information
- Students sign offer letters
