This article is an effort to enlighten you from my experience, having a score of 360, and it aims at helping you crack BITSAT 2018 with just the needed directions. Here are some BITSAT Tips and Tricks to keep in mind while you are writing the exam:
BITS Pilani has its expanse over three branches, namely Hyderabad, Pilani, Goa and also in Dubai and all four of them boast of lavish campuses of international facilities, to begin with.
The colleges are enriched with a very high standard of teaching faculty along with a splendid placement record. No wonder its entrance examination is considered at par with JEE itself.

If you are wondering how different are preparations for BITSAT and JEE, it should be understood that both these entrance examinations solely demand a perfect knowledge of the basic concepts of the subject. While JEE probes into lengthier questions and more in-depth analysis, BITSAT limits itself to shorter but far trickier questions. Also, BITSAT has slightly lesser chapters in its bag as compared to JEE syllabus, focusing only on the important ones. But you may want to dedicate separate time for both these examinations as you close their respective dates. There are number of such insights into the exam paper which make it important for a candidate to know the bitsat tips and tricks.

Firstly, refer to the complete syllabus for BITSAT to begin your preparation accordingly. BITSAT 2018 hits examination halls in May. How to score above the acceptable 290 (usual) cutoff is the most common worry. Here are the most important BITSAT tips and tricks that will help you.

BITSAT Tips and Tricks:

A decent BITSAT score is generally above 320 and considered exceptional above 350. Scores of such caliber are required to grab the top branches. From my experience, I enlist a few BITSAT tips and tricks which enhanced my score and a few which could have improved it even more:

  • Shorter but Trickier questions:

While gearing up for BITSAT 2018, don’t waste time solving lengthier questions, but root for questions which are more concept based. You must have all formulas and equations (algebraic and chemical alike) on your fingertips. Know that almost seventy percent of the question paper is formula based. Few scoring questions can be as easy as calculating wavelength for an electron to jump from shell n=2 to n=3 or the time for the free fall of a ball tossed in the air.

  • Strenuous time management:

The most important out of all the BITSAT tips and tricks is and most efficient is time management. Only those who are able to solve questions accurately and quickly are the ones who grab the baton. Such is not the case in JEE because the questions are less than half of that in BITSAT. You need to put yourself through a taxing mock routine for practicing time management and enhance your solving speed. For this, you must firstly be able to reproduce any demanded content from chapters when asked in a question, in an instant. Secondly, subject yourself to mock test series for practice. The more you practice, the more you will observe an increasing graph of your score. In the process, try to reduce errors in your calculation to avoid the scope for revision during examination. Revising 150 questions could be a waste of time apart from being cumbersome, and hence you should try to avoid errors the first time you solve a problem.

  • Dividing time for separate questions:

Of the three hours of the examination, spend no more than half an hour on Chemistry so that you can devote more time to other sections. Since mathematics is time consuming, it may eat up as much as sixty to eighty minutes; the rest being saved for Physics, English and Logical Reasoning. What you need to absorb is that, unlike JEE, all questions hold same weightage. This gives you a very sharp advantage of focusing on solving shorter questions before lengthier ones. Questions pertaining to English and Logical Reasoning do not require calculation but only analysis. Hence, these together should not be allowed more than thirty to forty five minutes of your time.

  • Exam Simulation:

BITSAT 2018 is an online test and candidates who are used to pen-paper approach experience a lot of difference while giving the test online. The lack of being capable to refer to any question of choice makes online tests especially challenging. What I found funny was that the examination provides you with only limited sheets for rough work! Preparing yourself for such last minute alterations must be done well before hand. Equip your preparation with sufficient online BITSAT mock test series to understand the difference from a written examination.

  • Bonus Questions

BITSAT is the only examination amongst all its contemporaries which provides its candidates with bonus questions. Along with the sum total of 150 questions, it allows students to attempt an extra 12 questions but this comes with a catch. Once you opt for bonus questions, you have to submit your answers to the original 150 questions and you can’t revert back to review those answers. As risky as this may sound, many students attempt the bonus questions to score the extra edge. It is wiser to check the 150 answers before opting for the bonus questions as once you land on the bonus questions, there is no going back to those 150 questions you answered.

  • Negative Marking

The BITSAT examination provides you with a negative 1/3 marks for every wrong answer. Compared to a complete negative mark for wrong answers in JEE, this may seem minute, but given the large number of questions, it cannot be ignored. Hence, do not answer without being confident about it.

  • Give English its credit

Carrying 15 questions, English must be mastered well, given the cut throat competition in BITSAT exam. You should keep in touch slightly with easy grammar rules well before the examination, preferably along with your preparation. For Verbal/Logical sections, try to practice and prepare from books like Arihant/MTG.

  • Consult Arihant package

If there is any book perfectly garnered for BITSAT, it is the one which Arihant prescribes. The book has questions which are exactly at par with the level of the examination. The book is well revised and contains most questions which are repeatedly asked in the exam.

All in all, BITSAT is a fair ride. The right amount of preparation will give you the perfect result which you want. Just keep in mind the exam pattern and remember our tips. All the best!
