Educational organizations in India was the need of the hour. Post-1947, the Indian government considers and realizes the importance of education to all individuals in the country. University Grants Commission (UGC)

The University Grants Commission is often self-explanatory. This organization is a body that grants and offers commission to any educational institution that deserves it. However, that is only a part of the commission’s authority. Moreover, one of its major authority refers to its ability to maintain high education standards.

However the main purpose and the primary role of the UGC is to provide recognition to a university. And without the approval of this organization, no institute can function.

All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

The AICTE is an organization that is run by Chaiman SS Mantha was established in the year 1945. The main purpose of the Council is to ensure systematic planning and development of the technical Indian education. Moreover, AICTE is responsible for the following functions.

  • effective planning, creation and maintenance of norms and standards.
  • qualitative assurance through the process of accreditation.
  • funding in priority areas.
  • maintaining a balance in the certification and awarding.
  • Also, ensuring coordination and integration of development and management of technical education in India.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)

NAAC is often considered as the brain child of UGC. NAAC was created and established in the year 1922. The main purpose and core aim of NAAC was to address and monitor the issue of degradation in the quality of higher education in India.

You may often hear faculties and educational department heads in your college say, “we are being reviewed by NAAC”, “NAAC inspection begins next month.”

This basically means that NAAC is responsible for assessing and accrediting institutions of higher education in India. During their inspection and assessment process, they ensure that quality is the primary element of focus for India’s higher education.

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)

NCERT is an autonomous organisation set up in 1961 by the Government of India to support the Central and State Governments on policies for qualitative improvement. Moreover, the major objectives of NCERT are as follows.

  • undertake, promote and coordinate research in areas related to school education.
  • prepare and publish model textbooks, supplementary material, newsletters, journals and develops educational kits, multimedia digital materials, etc.
  • organize in-service training of teachers.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research is one of those educational organizations in India that coordinated the following.

  • research and education in agriculture
  • inclusive of horticulture
  • inclusive of fisheries and animal sciences

Moreover, the ICAR is an independent organization which works under the Department of Agriculture Research and Education. Lastly, the ICAR has its headquarters in Delhi and underwent establishment on 16th July 1929.

National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)

The National Council for Teacher Education is one of those education organizations in India that overlook the procedures. Moreover, their core purpose is to overlook the standards and processes in the Indian education system. Further, in 1973, the Indian government establishes the NCTE as an advisory body. Further, the headquarter for the National Council for Teacher Education in in New Delhi. Also, one of its primary aims is to help in the development of the Indian teacher education system. No, not all the organizations and councils only focus on improving the students or the institutions. Many times, councils also focus on ensuring higher quality education by providing the following.

  • Adoption of technical skills and programs.
