There are a lot of Engineering Colleges in Mumbai. And there are a lot of lists that rank these colleges. Here is a personal list of the best Engineering Colleges in Mumbai based on what I have heard from my friends who have actually studied in these colleges.

Engineering Colleges in Mumbai:

IIT Bombay

Clearly the best engineering college in Mumbai, and also many would agree in India. It grabs the first position by default. IIT Bombay is a haven in itself with the best of opportunities in various research fields and even cultural areas. It has got the best labs and machines. The courses are well composed and the opportunity to learn is always available. IIT Bombay’s cultural festival is supposedly the best in the country too.

Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai

ICT is a top-notch research institute that was established in 1933. It is also the only state-funded institute in India. ICT has niche areas of research and engineering courses such as Technology of Dyes and Intermediates, Technology of Pharmaceuticals, Food Engineering and Technology, etc. Clearly, for someone with a fixed goal to go into chemical technology, ICT is in fact a better option than even IIT Bombay.

Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai

Established in 1887, it is part of the University of Mumbai, where it’s degrees and diplomas are issued. The institute is financially supported by the Government of Maharashtra. VJTI has niche student clubs and societies that provide experience in technology, arts, and entrepreneurship. Some such are Society of Automotive Engineering, Society of Robotics and Automation, and Debate and Literary Arts Society. VJTI has a strong alumni association that aims to connect students with the alumni and help promote skill building exercises that could help current students through expertise of the alumni.

Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering, Mumbai

Initially a college dedicated to Production Engineering, it now has four departments – computer engineering, electronics, IT, and production engineering. Though it is a small college, it boasts of a healthy placement scenario with lead companies like JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, etc. hiring directly from campus. Moreover, the campus is located in Bandstand, making it indeed a very enviable campus.

Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Mumbai

It is also a small college in terms of departments with four departments – computer engineering, electronics, IT, and mechanical engineering. The college functions in a 8-semester system spread over 4 years. It has been granted a religious minority status, consequently reserving 50% of all seats for Roman Catholics.

This is obviously not the complete list of best colleges in Mumbai. And some of these won’t make it to the best colleges in Maharashtra list. But if you are thinking of pursuing engineering, you should give these a thought. 🙂
