JOSAA Round 5: Engineering Seats Vacancy List

The seat allotment result of round 5 of JOSAA Seat Allocation 2017 was declared by the JOSAA authorities on 17th July, 2017. Candidates can check their results on the official JOSAA website by logging in with their credentials. After checking their result, students will have to report at the authorized reporting centres and accept or withdraw the allotment as per the JOSAA guidelines. JOSAA also released the seat allotment statistics and after round 5 of seat allocation a total of 421 seats form the engineering seats vacancy list.

These seats had participated in this seat allocation process and belonged to different IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. A detailed list of the seats yet to be claimed is given below –

Name of the Institute Number of seats vacant
IIT Bhubaneshwar 1
NIT Jalandhar 20
NIT Agartala 75
NIT Calicut 14
NIT Goa 1
NIT Meghalaya 4
NIT Nagaland 63
NIT Puducherry 6
NIT Sikkim 74
NIT Arunachal Pradesh 36
NIT Kurukshetra 19
NIT Manipur 42
NIT Mizoram 62
NIT Srinagar 4
Total 421

After round 4 of seat allocation which took place on 13th July, 69 seats remained unclaimed from various IITs which included IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-BHU, IIT-Tirupati and ISM Dhanbad and all those seats were reallocated in round 5. However, this year, among IITs, after round 5 results, only one seat is vacant in IIT Bhubaneshwar which belongs to the ST category.

This year, 7 rounds of seat allocation are going to be conducted in JOSAA unlike last year when 6 rounds were conducted. With 2 rounds yet to be performed, it is expected that this engineering seats vacancy list thins down to a smaller number by the end of 7th round. A student is allowed to withdraw a seat till the end of 6th round, however the withdrawal option is not available after the allocation of 7th round and if in case a student doesn’t accept a seat than that particular seat will remain vacant.

The joint counselling process, which was introduced 2 years back, manages and regulates admissions into 97 institutes (IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs) with a total of 36,208 seats available. This year the counselling process will end on 22nd July which is the scheduled deadline date for seat acceptance of round 7. You can find more information on the schedule of the remaining two rounds and other important things to keep in mind about JOSAA, here.
