In an endeavour to form a successful strategy to crack JEE Advanced 2018, let us begin with realizing that the selection procedure will consist of two different tests:

1)      JEE Main 2018:

Earlier known as AIEEE, an aspirant needs to maximize their speed of solving questions accurately in a given time to successfully qualify this test. From 2013, IIT JEE and AIEEE was integrated into a two tier exam: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE Main score is used to get admissions to central colleges other than IITs registered with JoSAA whereas JEE Advanced score is used to get admissions to the IITs.

2)      JEE Advanced 2018:

The difficulty level of questions is higher as this paper tests concepts and theorems that aspirants have learnt previously. The score of JEE Advanced is used for getting admissions to the IITs.

JEE Advanced 2018 preparation plan

The sole plan that can ensure student’s fate at JEE Advanced 2018 is time management. One needs to set goals and then monitor them on a regular basis. In order to set these goals, first have a reasonable idea of the curriculum and then divide the topics into sections depending on their difficulty level. Another important part of setting the goals is to assign equal attention to all the subjects; neglecting the less favoured one may cost students heavily. Once the segregation of topics is done, form a time table accommodating all subjects and stick to it for the entire period of preparation. Keep focus and devote all the attention towards achieving these pre-set goals.

JEE Advanced 2018 preparation tips
  • Fulfil targets on daily basis: Your daily study plan must include learning and revision so assign daily goals for you and fulfil them. This will boost your confidence and avoid time wastage.
  • Numericals are crucial: Solving enough numericals is crucial to crack JEE Advanced. So, practise at least 40-50 numericals on each day of your JEE Advanced preparation. With subjects like Maths, Physics and Chemistry there is no dearth of numerical problems.
  • It is not a cakewalk to crack the country’s toughest engineering exam, so hiccups are bound to come in the due course of preparation. A topic may wear students down but this is no reason to give up on it. These topics are worth plenty of marks at JEE Advanced 2018 and thus pay extra focus on difficult topics. It is best to consult fellows, mentors or teachers who have a better understanding of these topics.
  • Target weak subject first; if a student does not score well in a specific subject then they must concentrate their efforts in that direction. Remember, “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” Refer to teachers or mentors who can act as guide for that subject. Draw inspiration from the fact that the subject carries lots of marks in JEE Advanced 2018 and hence few rigorous pursuits would make the journey pleasant.
  • Design a methodical and practical time schedule for studying such that all the subjects get enough attention. Mark time for revisions in the roaster so that the day comprises of studying new concepts, revising the studied ones, and numerical solving.
  • Understanding theory and concepts is of utmost importance for clearing JEE Advanced 2018. The test comprises of numericals involving derivations that are impossible to perform without understanding the concepts well.
  • Procure previous years sample papers for practice and attempt as many mock tests as possible. This activity helps in improving speed apart from giving an insight into the exam pattern.
  • Take out time for recreation too as it is really necessary to keep calm and refreshed. The students must pay attention to their sleep and nutrition too. If possible, wake up early and utilize morning hours for studying as a re-energized mind is always a better receptor.
Some useful books for JEE Advanced 2018:
  1. NCERT books for Maths, Physics and Chemistry are important for preparation as they talk about the concepts in detail.
  2. Besides these, refer to Maths books from Arihant Books, Cengage, Trignometry, Coordinate Geometry-SL Loney, Algebra – Hall and Knight, Calculus – Thomas and Finney
  3. Physics books by H.C Verma, Dc Pandey, Resnich Halliday (Volume I & II), O.P Tondon are a great help for numerical and concepts
  4. Books like S.N Sanyal’s Organic Chemistry book, NCERTs for Inorganic chemistry, Paula Bruice for Organic, Numerical Chemistry-P Bahadur will help in clearing concepts about chemical equations and mechanisms.
