IBPS Exam:

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, which is autonomous, conducts IBPS Exam and research-based institute offering human resource recruitment opportunity to the banking sector of India. The guiding and governing body for IBPS is the RBI, Finance Ministry of India and NIBM. Further, there are representatives from public banks and insurance companies who take part in the decision making process in order to take steps that lead to a productive and value-adding consequence.

 What are the exams falling under IBPS?

  1. IBPS SO: This examination is for Specialist Officer. Scale 1 SO provide grade management service at the junior level in areas like HR, IT, Marketing, Law etc. Scale 2 SO need specialization like an MBA, PG, PGDBM, CFA etc. Further, work experience is needed too.
  2. IBPS Clerk: there are two exams in this, preliminary and mains and is conducted for the clerical posts.
  3. IBPS PO: there are two exams in this, preliminary and mains after which there is an interview process. Graduates are free to apply to this post and those who qualify in the same are inducted as AM on a probationary basis.
  4. IBPS RRB: Group A personnel of the scale 1, 2 and 3 and group B personnel are recruited through this exam. Necessary degrees and work experience are required for this exam.

It is to be noted that the final merit list is based on the exam result, interview, bank’s requirements as well as the experience and aptitude.

Is there any eligibility criterion for those looking at taking the IBPS exam?

Since the exam is held throughout the year at a national level, there are some extremely basic requirements. The candidate is required to have a bachelor’s degree and must possess knowledge in computer and Internet studies. They must have a certificate to prove the legitimacy of the same. For those planning to apply for special ranks, a post-graduate degree, certificate course or council membership is mandatory. These specializations include Law, Management, Accounting, IT, etc.

What is the application process?

The dates for the application, exams and results are all declared on the official website and the students are required to keep a check on it in order to be up to date with the information. The official website has the registration link that needs to be filled diligently. Once the form is filled up, the registration or examination fee needs to be paid online, a print out of which must be kept handy. Once that is done the student gets assigned a registration number. The admit card is also released on the website and must be downloaded and printed. The admit card is required not only during the exams but also during the interview.

IBPS Exam Pattern

There are three phases of the IBPS Exam. They are a preliminary examination, main examination and interview. It is a step-by-step process and it is mandatory for the candidate to clear one before stepping on to the next. Hence, the students first have to take the preliminary test. On qualifying in the same, they will be allowed to take the main examination. Once the students secure the necessary cute off, they will be called for an interview.

There are some pointers one needs to know and understand when considering to take this examination:

  1. The preliminary exam has no weight when it comes to allotment, but only those passing and securing a good result in this will be allowed to take the main examination.
  2. For the objective questions, there will be negative marking in case of incorrect answers. One-fourth of the total marks allotted to that question will be deducted. Hence, the students should remain focused in order to be accurate and correct.
  3. In case the question is left blank, no marks will be given or deducted.

How does the student upload the picture and signature?

The candidate needs to have scanned copy of their photograph and signature as per the format requirement. The signature needs to be in lower case. The size of the image has to be 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm and has to be a recent one. The background in the image must be light and in case of flash, red eyes must be removed. The face should be clear and eyes should be visible. The electronic image should be 200 pixels by 230 pixels and the size should be in the size range of 20 kb to 50 kb. For the signature, the blank ink must be used on white paper and should be done by the student only. The file dimension should be 140 by 60 pixel and the size should be in the range 10 – 20 kb.
