The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection which is better known as IBPS is a recruitment body was established in 1975 with an aim of providing employment opportunities to the young graduates of our country in the banking sector (public) of India. It is an autonomous body which assists in recruitment, placement and promotion services to the nationalized banks of our country. IBPS looks after the recruitment and placement of graduates in public sector banks. It provides a system for assessment and result processing service to organizations. It provides services to all public-sector banks, SBI, associate banks of SBI, RBI, NABARD, SIDBI, LIC, and insurance companies. Also, universities and some management institutes also engage IBPS for conducting admission test.

IBPS publishes notification for IBPS Clerk, PO, RRB and specialist officers on its website http://www.ibps.in. Students who want to sit for the exam must go to the IBPS website and register for the respective examination by filling the application form and paying the registration fee. For SC/ST/OBC/PWD the fees are Rs.100 and Rs.600 for unreserved category students.

Tentative calendar for the year 2018 has been released by IBPS.
- Officer Scale I and Office assistant: The preliminary examination will be held in the month of August on 11th, 12th, 19th, 25th and 1st of September 2018. The main exam for Scale I is on 30th September 2018 and for Office assistant, it will be on 7th October 2018.
- Officer Scale-II and III: There will be a single examination for this. The date of the exam is 30th September 2018.

IBPS PO
The selection process involves a preliminary examination, Main examination, group discussion, personal interview and medical test. The preliminary exam will be held in the month of October on 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st. The Main examination will be held on 18th November 2018.

IBPS Clerk
The selection process involves a preliminary examination, Main examination, group discussion, personal interview and medical test. The preliminary exam will be held in the month of November on 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th. The main exam will be held on 20th January 2019.

IBPS Specialist Officers
The date for preliminary examination is on 29th, 30th December 2018. The main exam will be held on 27th January 2019.

The first preliminary exam will consist of 100 multiple choice questions divided into subjects of English, reasoning and quantitative aptitude. The time for the exam is 1 hour. It is an online test with 30,35,35 questions respectively. After you have cleared the preliminary examination there will be the at the main exam. For IBPS Clerk the main exam contains 190 multiple choice questions of 200 marks divided in four categories English, General Awareness, Reasoning ability and Computer aptitude together and Quantitative aptitude with 40 questions in English and 50 each in the other categories. The time for the exam is 160 minutes. For IBP PO the main exam consists of 155 multiple choice questions of 200 marks and 2 question each on letter writing and essay writing. The sections in the main exam consists of 45 reasoning aptitude, 40 general awareness, 35 each in English language and Data Interpretation. The time for the exam is 180 minutes and 30 minutes for the subjective English paper.
After the main exam, the shortlisted candidates need to go through a personal interview and group discussion. Based on the main exam, personal interview and the group discussion the candidates are selected. The joining of the selected candidates starts from April of 2019.
