IIIT stands for The International Institute of Information Technology. These are a group of colleges that are supported by the State Government. A Governing Council consisting of eminent people from academia, industry and government presides over the governance of the institution.

There are currently 4 IIITs that are well known in India:

A. International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) is an autonomous university founded in 1998. It was set up as a not-for-profit public private partnership (N-PPP) and is the first IIIT to be set up under this model in India. The Government of Andhra Pradesh lent support to the institute by grant of land and buildings.

Reaching Hyderabad by a train and getting down at the Hyderabad (Nampally) station would be the easiest way to reach us. The institute is 16km from Nampally railway station. From the railway station one can take an auto or APSRTC bus (Nos: 216 & 217) to reach IIIT-H.

Postgraduate Admissions:

Admissions are open in Monsoon and Spring semesters every year.  Applicants (with exceptional academics along with R&D working experience) interested in research programmes are allowed to apply anytime in the year through the Standing Committee by sending their curriculum vitae (CV). Working professionals who are employed at Hyderabad and have a desire to pursue higher studies on a part-time basis can also apply to the Post Graduate Student Status Programme (PGSSP).

Financial Assistance for Undergraduate Students:

Special Schemes

  1. Pratibha scholarship There are merit-cum-means scholarships offered by the State Governments such as Pratibha Scholarship by the AP Government. These are available to IIIT students who come from AP and whose parent’s annual income is within one lakh.
  2. IIIT-H special financial assistance scheme (ISFAS) is available for needy students. Please note this fund is made possible due to the generosity of our alumni which is still very young and hence is NOT to be viewed as an easier option (than a bank loan) for meeting your financial needs. This scheme has been made possible by the IIIT alumni and is available in the following form:

Scholarships in the form of repayable loan for one semester. The loans are extendable to students to cover a maximum of 4 years of study, provided they maintain good academic status.

Research

IIT Hyderabad is structured around research centers and labs as opposed to schools and departments. Each research center focuses on a broad problem area and brings together experts possibly with varied background to conduct research and development on specific aspects of that problem area, constantly pushing the science to the next level.

Placement

In 2008, IIIT-H’s placement was ranked Top 2, ahead of six IITs, with an average compensation of Rs.7.2 lac, which was the second highest in the country, just behind IIT-Kharagpur’s Rs.7.4 lac. (Outlook-Synovate’s Top Engineering Colleges Survey 2008)

IIIT-H’s Placement 2009 was ranked Top 2, and ahead of six IITs, with 100% placement and an average compensation of Rs.6.1 lac, the highest among all technology schools in the country, by Mint-Cfore carried out Best Engineering Colleges’ Survey 2009.

In Placement 2010, IIIT-H has recorded in India the highest average compensation of Rs.9 lac for the undergraduate students.

B. International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore

The International Institute of Information Technology, a Deemed University, popularly known as IIIT-B, was established in 1999 with a vision to contribute to the IT world by focusing on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation. The Institute is a registered not-for-profit society funded jointly by the Government of Karnataka and the IT industry. The Institute works in partnership with the corporate sector, while retaining the freedom of an academic institution.

The Institute moved to its present Electronics City campus spread across 3,92,452 Square Feet Area in 2003. The campus features 5,000 plus square feet of landscaping with well-maintained lush green lawns and musical fountains creating an ideal learning environment to stimulate intellectual and personal growth. The campus has four main buildings: Admin Block, Leelavati- Women’s hostel, Bhaskara- Men’s hostel and Innovation Centre.

Designed and built in compliance with the highest global standards, the teaching and learning infrastructure features the most advanced elements of contemporary academic tools. The three floored Admin Block having an area of 1,26,000 square feet, accommodates Faculty rooms, Boardroom, Director’s Room, Library, Laboratories, Administration office, Discussion rooms and state-of-the-art ‘Smart’ Classrooms with high-speed data networks and large projection systems for audio and video. This building is fully air-conditioned space, uninterrupted power supply, and a well-crafted interior.

The well-designed main classroom comfortably seats in excess of 150 students. Video conferencing capabilities are built in using the state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment. Academics

The Institute is an exclusive graduate school that offers programs that lead to post-graduate degrees. The graduate study programs offered lead to (a) course-based outcomes, namely the Integrated Master of Technology (Integrated M.Tech.), and the Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Information Technology and Electronic Systems Design, and (b) research outcomes, namely, the Master of Science by Research/ Master of Science (Research) and Digital Society and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Minimum Requirements for Master of Science by Research/ Master of Science (Research) & Ph.D. Programmes:

  • The minimum qualification for admissions to the M.S. by Research program is a four-year bachelors degree in engineering (B.E., B.Tech. or equivalent) and that for the Ph.D. programme is a masters degree in engineering (M.E., M.Tech., or equivalent, or M.S. by Research). M.S. by Research and Ph.D. degree programs are aligned with the research domains at IIITB. Hence there are several requirements specific to research domains which have been specified in the announcement.

Minimum Requirements for Integrated M.Tech Programme:

  • The minimum qualification for admission to the Integrated M.Tech. programme at IIITB is a first-class in 10 + 2 (or equivalent) with Mathematics as one of the subjects. The detailed list of qualifying examinations is given below.

Minimum Requirements for M.Tech Programme:

  • The minimum qualification for admission to any of the post-graduate programmes at IIITB is 65% in four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering (i.e. B.E., B.Tech., or equivalent). First class degree holders in 3-year undergraduate programmes followed by MSc with first class in any of the physical sciences, or an MCA degree with first class, can also apply. First class or equivalent is required in 10th and 12th (or equivalent) grades as well.

Minimum Requirements for Master of Science (Digital Society) Programme:

  • An under-graduate degree (of at least 3 years duration) in any discipline with a first division/class from a recognised University. Those expecting to graduate by 1st August 2015 may also apply.Prior certification of computer application/ programming from a recognised institute is an added advantage, but not mandatory. Relevant work experience is an added advantage, but not mandatory.

Research

At IIITB, the notion of research labs and centers which is an abstraction of a particular theme/area is followed. A research lab encompasses people, projects, physical facilities, and activities. A research center or a center of excellence is an abstraction either in terms of the broader set of research themes being followed or in terms of hierarchy of research activities.

One of the funded research projects that is ongoing is the “Joint Road Forward”. The global urbanisation megatrend generates an increasing need to transport people, goods and utilities in support of the socio-economic activity of cities. As witnessed daily in many urban environments, the traditional transportation system design methods for road, rail, public transport and other modes have failed in delivering sustainable designs.

Historically, transportation infrastructure designs have been formulated as economic productivity engines. The identification of the direct and indirect users and their motivations to use infrastructure has been limited; these factors are even less reflected in the design options considered both in Western Europe and India. Conventional data capture and data analytics have contributed to this limitation.

Smart information and communication technologies and services can overcome data capture and data analytic limitations. The premise -the ‘Joint Road Forward’- is that ICT enables transportation designs and operations that are more sustainable, inclusive, and economically beneficial for urban communities. To respond to demand, Shell and other companies have proposed Smarter Mobility initiatives pursuing cleaner and more energy-efficient transportation designs.

Placement

The institute facilitates the Placement process each year for the benefit of its students. The Placement process covers both internship and full time employment (FTE). Since the founding of the Institute in 1999, IIITB has enjoyed 100% placement each year, on account of the strong support of the IT Industry and the growing base of talented alumni.

The placement season, for both internship and FTE, usually opens in August / September, where the companies and the institute get in touch and eventually schedule a date for placements in the coming months.

C. International Institute of Information Technology, Pune

International Institute of Information Technology (I²IT) was launched in the year 2000 to propel India to commanding heights in the IT space by offering innovative academic programmes in IT and Management. The Institute was dedicated to the service of the nation at the hands of Former Hon’ble President of India, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam on 28th May 2003. Since then it has emerged as one of the premier academic institutions in India.

International Institute of Information Technology (I²IT) is located in the state-of-the-art Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park of Pune. Pune is a unique mix of rich tradition of education and culture. Maharashtra’s knowledge capital and queen of the Deccan, Pune, is easily accessible from the buzzing metro of Mumbai with the presence of several academic institutions and research establishments, and a well-developed IT hub, this city is now fast becoming an advanced tech-city teeming with leading IT and BT companies and multi-national engineering companies.

Indian Collaborations

  • I²IT & IGNOU – The International Institute of Information Technology (I²IT) / I2IT Private Limited, Pune and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have launched a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Education and Research to offer 2 years full time face to face M.Tech, M.S and MBA Degree Programs of IGNOU at I²IT campus in Pune. The announced academic programs cover 19 Master Degree level programs of IGNOU in Advanced Information Technology, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Intelligent Systems, Robotics, Automotive Engineering and Management. Many of the M.S and M.Tech academic programs offered in Stem Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, Nanoelectronics, Nano biotechnology, Intelligent Systems and Robotics and Satellite Communication and Space Systems are being introduced for the first time in India. The IGNOU – I²IT Centre of Excellence is an outcome of the Memorandum of Collaboration / Memorandum of Understanding signed between the parties on June 08, 2010 and September 14, 2011 at New Delhi. The MoC / MoU are valid for a period of 5 years.
  • I²IT & UPES – The International Institute of Information Technology (I²IT) has collaborated with the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) and in academic articulation with UPES offered full time M.Tech and MBA Degree Programs in Oil and Gas Management, Oil and Gas Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics. The collaboration arrangement with UPES, Dehradun has been successfully completed in all respects with the passing out of our last batch of students in the year 2010.
  • I²IT and IFS – The academic programs at I²IT are complemented by short term competency development programs through the I2IT International Finishing School (IFS), created by distinguished leaders from academic and industry. IFS, in collaboration with I²IT, offers industry – academia linked, autonomous, full time residential Professional Postgraduate Programs.

Foreign Collaborations

The International collaborations are sought under a collaborative framework for facilitating and strengthening interactions among universities, academia, institutions and industries in the teaching and research areas of Information and Communication Technology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and Interdisciplinary Science and Technology.

By and large, the purpose of these collaborative arrangements / agreements has been for academic exchanges and willingness to co-operate in the promotion of teaching, research and professional activities. Some of the types of co-operation include exchange of students, exchange of faculty, joint research projects, exchange of publications, reports and other academic information, collaborative professional development and other allied activities.

Several students from all across the globe have participated and pursued the full time and part time academic and research programmes of the Institute. This is also supported by various events conducted on the Institute campus by way of international conferences, seminars, workshops and research projects amongst many other fruitful experiences.

The “International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar” (IIIT-BH) is an information technology higher education and a unitary university institute located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It is a University Grants Commission (India) (UGC) recognized Unitary Technical University. The campus is located in Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar. IIIT Bhubaneswar was initiated by the Government of Odisha and registered as a society in 2006.   • Advaita – Cultural Festival: The cultural night said to be witnessed by students of various colleges is a not to be missed event of this college.
  • Nebulae is the welcome party for the B.Tech freshmen. It is usually held within two weeks of the official start of the academic year. It is usually conducted by the sophomores although 3rd and 4th year seniors are equally participative.
  • The institute has a laboratory for Mobile Computing which consists of ten Apple iMac desktops.
  • The proposed characterization lab would be the first of its kind in the eastern region of the nation. The laboratory will provide facility for chip testing. Although the chip designing has reached an appreciable stage in the State, the chip testing facility is not available. Now the chip designers have to tie up with IT companies having such facilities in Silicon Valley of the United States of America. The characterization laboratory will also provide a common facility to local IT entrepreneurs, students and research scholars as well, and such a facility will attract more IT investors to the State.
  • CLIA Lab: Sandhan (Indian language Search Engine) is a mission mode project funded by TDIL, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, government of India. Its objective is to develop a search system for tourism in nine Indian languages viz., Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Oriya, Assamese & Gujurati. It is a consortium mode project consists of institutes like: IIT Bombay(Consortium Leader), AU KBC Chennai, AUCE G Chennai, CDAC Pune, CDAC Noida, DAIICT Gandhinagar, Gauhati University, IIIT Bhubaneswar, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur, ISI Kolkata, Jadavpur University. The Sandhan system for five Indian Languages viz: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil & Telugu is already hosted in the TDIL server for public use and other language will be hosted soon. The system will enable searching the Indian language content and thus address the gap that exists in fulfilling the information need of the huge Indian population not conversant with English – estimated at 10% of the population. The segments expected to be benefited are tourism sector, students and even business sectors.
  • The High Performance Computing (HPC) lab at IIIT-Bh has 12 compute nodes, 1 GPU node, 1 master node, and 1 storage array.
  • IIIT Bhubaneswar is fully residential. The hostel has eight blocks of nine stories. There is separate accommodation for boys and girls. The hostel can accommodate up to 1350 students
  • The institute has classrooms of different form factors to address student’s needs. There are classrooms with fixed furniture arranged like a gallery. There are classrooms with flexible furniture to create a desired layout. There are also classrooms with no furniture so as to have a dynamic audience. The classrooms can accommodate audience of capacity ranging from 30 to 300. The classrooms are equipped with audio, video and presentation equipment.
  • The Textbook Library has titles in multiple copies so as to provide the students access to text books. The reference books collection has books on subjects including technical, humanities, fiction, non-fiction, handbooks and encyclopedias. The Intranet hosts a large collection of e-books. The library subscribes to journal data bases covering IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley collection, ASTM, McGraw Hill, and J-Gate.
