Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is the most popular college in India which has enjoyed a rich legacy behind it. IIT has produced some of the best professionals who, after graduating from an IIT, have shined in their respective fields of specialization. Today, most of the organizations demand IIT graduates to join them at the higher designations which come with a great pay package and a bright professional future. This is the reason why all the students want to get into an IIT; IIT alumni are skillful engineers and management professionals and each industry wants them.
Some of them are working at the top positions and with coveted designations for the best companies in the world, some of them have taken a step ahead and have established successful businesses in their respective fields and some of the IIT graduates decided to think out of the box and have established successful start-ups of a completely different nature.
Simultaneously, there are IITians who gave up their engineering aspirations to prioritize their dreams – to be a part of the entertainment arena. Following is a list of some of the IITians who dared to leave the shade and ran outside to make it big in the entertainment industry.
1. Rahul Ram
Rahul Ram is an exponential figure in the Indian entertainment industry. He is the bass guitarist of the popular Indian musical band Indian Ocean, which he joined in 1991. He has composed music and sung for famous Bollywood movies as well. He belongs to a well-educated family having known for having high academic standards which Rahul adhered to diligently by graduating with a Masters in chemistry from IIT Kanpur before deciding to pursue his dream of making it big in the entertainment industry.
2. Chetan Bhagat
When it comes to Indian writing, the first name which comes to our mind is Chetan Bhagat. He has written some of the bestselling novels in India which have garnered international success like Five Point Someone, The 3 Mistakes of My Life, and Revolution 2020 etc. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi who dared to step out and make it big in the global literature arena. His novels have been made into successful Bollywood movies as well. He left his job with a leading bank to become a writer which he has accomplished successfully.
3. Nitin Gupta
Nitin Gupta, popular as Rivaldo, is a nationally renowned stand-up comedian who, after graduating from IIT Bombay, decided to chase his dream of becoming a comedian. He started his company Entertainment Engineers to take stand-up comedy in India to a higher stature. He has performed in over 140 shows till date and is considered as one of the best stand-up comedians in the country today.
4. Amol Parashar
Amol Parashar is a famous Bollywood actor who has acted in various popular Bollywood films. Prior to acting in films, Amol regularly did advertisement films and has bagged endorsements from some of the best brands in India. His first break in Bollywood came with a supporting role in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer blockbuster film ‘Rocket Singh – Salesman of The Year’. He is a B. Tech pass out from IIT, Delhi.
5. Ashish Lal
Ashish has completed his graduation from IIT, Delhi with a B. Tech degree. He has acted and scripted the story of the popular Bollywood movie ‘With Love, Delhi’. He runs a production house named RedMat Entertainment co-owned by a college friend which makes movies, documentaries, corporate AVs etc.
6. R. Prasanna
This person needs no introductions when it comes to music. R. Prasanna, famously known as Prasanna, is a pioneering musician who has expertise in playing Carnatic classical music on the guitar. He has done music for a lot of Bollywood films. He is the founder of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, India’s oldest professional college for musical education. He has done his graduation in Naval Architecture from IIT, Madras.
