IIT Jodhpur

The Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur, also known as IIT Jodhpur is a public university located in Jodhpur in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the year 2008. It is affiliated to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The transit campus of IIT Jodhpur is located in a portion of the MBM Engineering College under JNV University, Jodhpur. The permanent campus is under construction and will be located about 12 km from Jodhpur city on the national highway 65 which connects Jodhpur to Nagaur.

The institute ensures that it has a multidisciplinary approach for its undergraduate curriculum and interdisciplinary specializations at the postgraduate level. The endeavour at IIT Jodhpur is to live up to its brand image, which it has created over the last 60 years. It also has a renewed focus on producing world-class graduates who are technology-driven and contribute towards the development of the nation.

Admission Process

Candidates are admitted through the regular admission channel that is based on the applications received through IIT-JEE/ GATE & JAM entrance test for various programmes. There are a total of 160 seats in this college. The institute offers 4 undergraduate courses in Engineering and Technology. Each year, admission to this course is through the JEE entrance exam, which is conducted in the month of April. The results for the same are declared in May. The students who clear the JEE main exam must then appear for the JEE advanced, which is conducted in the month of June. Results are declared in July and classes commence from August onwards.

Applicants willing to seek admission to IIT Jodhpur can register through online or offline process. Application forms are available on the official website of the institute. Final selection is done completely on merit basis.

How to Apply ?

• Candidates are required to first register themselves on the official website by entering their name, email ID, course joining for, type of admission and category. A password and confirmation mail on registered email ID will be sent.
• For filling the application form, they are required to enter the login details received in the mail.
• Candidates are required to upload scanned copies of their recent passport size photograph with a file size not exceeding 50 KB.
• Applicants are required to upload their signature also.
• After submitting the application form, the next step is to pay the processing fee online by using a credit card/debit card/ net banking.
• After submitting the online application form, a summary sheet will be generated. Candidates must take a printout, sign on it and send it via post along with self-attested copies of supporting documents and payment receipt to IIT Jodhpur postal address.

Important Pointers regarding IIT Jodhpur Fees

• The fee structure holds only for General/OBC candidates.
• SC/ST candidates are completely exeempt from the tuition fee of ₹1,00,000.
• General/OBC candidates with annual family income between ₹1 LPA & ₹5 LPA have to pay only one-third of the tuition fee.
• Candidates with family income less than ₹1 LPA are completely exempt from tuition fee.

Campus Facts

At present, IIT Jodhpur operates from two sets of temporary campuses, namely:

1.Temporary Academic Campus: It is located in the premises of MBM Engineering College in Jodhpur, situated on the Old Residency Road, Ratanada. It is at a distance of about 4 km from the Jodhpur Railway Station and 3 kms from the Jodhpur Airport.

2.Temporary Residential Campuses: IIT Jodhpur has two residential campuses located at (1) GPRA Residential Campus, Pali Road Jodhpur, and (2) BSNL Residential Campus, Subhash Nagar, Jodhpur. GPRA Campus is located at New Pali Road, about 17 kms from the academic campus and provides accommodation to nearly 600 B.Tech. boy and all girl students. Also, it provides accommodation to nearly 150 other members of the IIT community, including Faculty Members, Staff Members, and their family members. And the BSNL Campus is located in the heart of the city and accomodates nearly 150 male M.Tech. and Ph.D. students. Limited housing is available on this campus for married students.

Permanent Campus

Very soon, IIT Jodhpur is about to shift to its sprawling state-of-the-art residential permanent campus on 852 acres of land, which is located ~24 km away from the centre of the city of Jodhpur. The permanent campus has 3 parcels of land and the Institute is making plans for adopting one of them for harvesting technologies.

Library

The central library of IIT Jodhpur is located at the camp office in the MBM Engineering College campus. The library has around 5000 books and also subscribes to many magazines and e-journals. Its services have been automated, enabling the ‘Online Public Access Catalogue’ accessible everywhere. It is open from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00p.m. on all working days of the college.

Hostel

The hostel area is situated on the New Pali Road and is divided into several blocks for the students. The faculty also stays in the same residential area, which is safe as it has excellent security round the clock. It also has several courts for outdoors as well as indoor sports.

There is also a computer centre and an extension of the library to help students study at leisure. All the hostels are also Wi-Fi enabled. The hostel also has lush green lawns, which create a relaxing environment for students as well as the staff.

Other Facilities

Health Center: IIT Rajasthan offers 24×7 health facilities at the hostel campus. The institute also has tie-ups with some hospitals in the city to cater to the medical needs of the students.

ATM & Bank: The hostel area has a branch of SBI (State Bank of India) and also an ATM of SBI enabling the students to make transactions with ease. There are several other banks namely UCO, HDFC, SBBJ, etc. close to the academic area.

Mess: There are two separate messes, one in the hostel area and the other one in the academic campus. The mess offers good quality food at very affordable rates.

Visitor’s Hostel: The hostel area has a fully equipped visitor’s hostel, which provides boarding and lodging facilities for all the institute’s guests, parents and guardians of students and all newly appointed faculty. Air-conditioned rooms are also available. Students can avail these facilities at concessional rates.

Transport Services: The institute has a bus service running between the residential and academic areas at regular intervals, exclusively for the students, faculty and staff of the institute. The academic area being more or less at the heart of Jodhpur, has easy access to other parts of the city.

Shops: Shops catering to all the various needs of the students, like stationary, general stores, medical stores, computer accessories, electrical hardware, bakery, etc. are present near the academic area of the campus. There are also two general stores, a medical store, stationery and a mobile phone accessories store opposite the hostel area.

The Student Placement Cell (SPC) at IITJ is entirely run and managed by the students in co-ordination with the official authorities. The job of contacting various companies, their interaction with the students, arranging for the pre-placement talks, tests and interviews is done and co-ordinated by the student authority under SPC. IIT Jodhpur Ranking

IIT Jodhpur was ranked 17^th amongst all the IITs according to the NIRF (National Insitute of Ranking Framework). The Institute stood 65^th overall i.e when all the colleges were considered. It’s NIRF score was 40.2 against IIT Madras’ 87.96 which was the top engineering college. NIRF ranks various institutes based on a score which depends on different parameters that include – “Teaching, Learning & resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”. IIT Jodhpur sure has a long way to go as far as the parameters listed above are concerned.

College Festivals

There are 2 inter-collegiate festivals:

2. Ignus: the most popular inter college technocultural and business festival. Let’s take a quick look at what the festival is all about.

IGNUS is four days of excitement and makes everyone forget all their worries through its exhilarating rock shows, liberating classical performances, modish fashion shows, brain-storming quizzes, a plethora of informals, non-stop DJ dance floors and lots more with a collective prize money worth more than 10 lakhs. The tech events include Programming & Web-designing, Robotics & Electronics and Automobiles & Aero-modelling. These events scratch the young heads to come up with innovative designs and ideas and to prove their mettle in the domain. There are Gaming Events, Business Events and Quizzards too to recognize students’ real quest for perfection. It’s a time to groove to the enchanting tunes as there are dance competitions both solo, group and also the most liked duet dances.

The intra-college festivals are:

2. Spandan: This is the intra-college or inter-hostel cultural festival
3. Kridansh: This is the intra-college or inter-hostel sports’ festival

All these festivals have made a mark in the 2-3 years since their birth and are surely one of the biggest festivals in Rajasthan and India.
