IIT Kharagpur Students develop drones
Drones are a technology that excites every Engineering student. Here at IIT Kharagpur, the team from Aerial Robotics Kharagpur (ARK) have been successful in developing these drones using indigenous hardware and software. Recently, ARK was the only team from India to participate in International Aerial Robotics Competition at Beijing (China) in September 2016. The team was awarded ‘Best Team Cooperation Award’ for its performance in the competition.
Aerial Robotics Kharagpur (ARK) is a Robotics Research group where a group of students work towards building autonomous aerial vehicles, based in Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. It is funded by the Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy facility of IIT Kharagpur as part of Centre for Excellence in Robotics, IIT Kharagpur. The Centre has received funding from the Institute to the extent of Rs 5 crore for 12 projects.
The drones which are built by ARK are capable of autonomous flight, localisation in GPS-denied environments, and tracking and interacting with mobile ground robots. This technology has its use in various fields like agriculture technology, mine surveying, surveillance etc.
