The internship is scheduled for two months and comes with a stipend amount of INR Six Thousand (per month, for a period of two months at max). This internship is devised to further facilitate academic research in the areas of Science, Engineering, Management and humanities and social sciences. He tried to convey that this IIT Madras Internship would not only foster academic research interest in the student’s minds, but it would also give them the opportunity of a lifetime to work under the supervision of revered researchers on global issues that are gaining immense prominence in the contemporary times.

Everything you need to know about the IIT Madras Internship update

1) Who can apply for this summer internship?
Third-year students, who are pursuing B.E, B.Tech, B.Sc, integrated M.E and M.Tech can apply. The first year candidates of M.E, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.A. and M.B.A are also eligible for applying for the IIT Madras Internship. However, this internship is strictly meant for non- IIT students. As a result, students belonging to the above disciplines but from any of the IITs in India CANNOT apply for this internship.  All the students applying for this summer fellowship must possess quality academic merit in terms of the ranks they have achieved in their college or university examinations. This is only to ensure that the students applying for this internship understand and value the gravity of it.

2) Which are the participating departments?
The participating departments for the IIT Madras Internship are the departments of Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Biotechnology, Applied Mechanics, Engineering Design, Metallurgical and Material Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences and Management studies.

3) Highlights for application
Whilst filling in the application, the students must concentrate on highlighting all kind of academic achievements. It could include their meritorious academic scores, the seminars they have attended (national or international) and the papers they have presented in them (if any). The application should highlight academic projects they have been a part of or have executed, details of their academic papers published (if any) and any kind of academic honor, an award of distinction bestowed on them.

4) Project Proposal
Another highlight of the application procedure is the project proposal. The departments of Humanities and Social sciences, the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Management Studies (only) have posted the need for a project proposal from the students who are applying for the IIT Madras Internship. The students are advised to do relevant research about writing a research proposal before sending the same. The research proposal would help the faculty members of the stated departments in a better selection of deserving students.

5) Location
The IIT Madras Internship will take place in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras.

6) Duration of the internship
The duration of this summer fellowship organized and facilitated by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is of two months. The formal dates of the internship are from 16th May, 2018 to 16th June, 2018. The internship schedule has also been assured to be agile, such that it complements the schedule of the students qualifying for it.

7) Stipend Amount
An incentive stipend of INR Six Thousand would be awarded to the students who qualify for the internship. This stipend amount of six thousand rupees is meant for each month, for two months maximum. Therefore the students who qualify for the internship are eligible of receiving a stipend of Rs. 12,000 at the end of the IIT Madras Internship.

8) When is the last date and time of applying online for the internship?
The last date of applying for this summer fellowship of IIT Madras is 28th February, 2018. The online portal for application submission closes at 5:00 pm on 28th February 2018.

The students belonging to private institutions or low ranking colleges from Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, along with students belonging to institutions situated in 3tier or 2tier cities like Patna, Jaipur, Kanpur, Indore, Ahmadabad, Bhopal, Guwahati etc  are especially advised to apply for this IIT Madras Internship. They are suggested not to miss out on this opportunity, keeping in mind the opportunity for their personal academic endeavor.
