NITs, the National Institutes of Technologies, are our nation’s pride in the field of engineering sciences. A student of the NIT begins their journey with the JEE Main exam which takes place during March-April every year. NITs are also known as Regional Engineering Colleges as there is one for every state in India. Earlier Toppr had ranked the various NITs on different factors from Infrastructure to placements. This article will try to provide some basic information a student should know before taking admission at any regional NIT.
Present in south central Tamil Nadu at a place with predominant humid climate, NIT Trichy tops our list as the best NIT. The placement statistics of NIT-T are better than many of the new IITs. With a campus of a whopping 800 acre size, it offers programs in disciplines of engineering, management and architecture with a faculty student ratio of 1:14. With a very friendly director, the institute is looking to open research academies and facilities and is one to look out for in the news.
In the heart of Telengana is NIT-W. It is present in a campus of 256 acres with a road network of 12km. The institute has recently set up Innovation Garage, a 24×7 student run multidisciplinary work space for innovation. This laboratory provides students, access to latest gadgets, tools and technology devices. It is a joint initiative of the institute & Lakshya Foundation. Its annual technical symposium Technozion with a footfall of 6000 students.
It is the only institute in India with its own beach WITH a lighthouse, the campus is known for its splendour spread over an area of 295 acres. Research is sponsored by central and state government agencies with a grant of INR 10 crores. The institute also admits students based on SAT score and has reserved 10% quota for students from abroad. It has various technical and cultural campus groups that add more color to the campus life.
Started in 1961 and is known for being the first in the country to introduce Computer Science and Engineering in 1976. It spreads over 222 acres and has full technical facilities. It provides 9 UG courses and 19 PG programs in engineering fields. MNNIT also hosts several annual events and festivals.
Situated in a campus of 300 acres, it is one of the few institutes of India to have a supercomputer of its own. It is a pioneer in the field of Nanotechnology with funding received from various agencies. It offers various courses from engineering to M.B.A. The institute also hosts its IT finishing school along with the likes of NIT-K, NIT-T, NIT-W.
Founded in 1963, it was ranked 6th in our list. It offers courses on technology, architecture, management and humanities. The placement records have been consistent with the highest pay being 21 LPA in the 2014 season. Departments of the institute are involved in various research projects funded by Department of Science and Technology and other private corporations. Students have made to coveted international internship programs like DAAD and MITACS. NIT Jaipur boasts of a very efficient student mentorship program.
Present in a 50 acre campus at the heart of Bhopal, MANIT Bhopal has excellent food and lodging facilities along with 24 hour security. NIT Nagpur is located in the center of India and is spread across 220 acres. It is a beautiful green campus with all facilities. The faculty of VNIT Nagpur college is very high experienced along with a lot of industrial exposure. It is regarded the best among all NITs for Mechanical engineering. The second best branch in the college is Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Since it is nearer to the city, one can enjoy social life also. VNIT is well equipped with labs and latest technology is ensured to the students by administration.
