JEE, the Joint Entrance Examination is the examination conducted by the CBSE (Mains) and IITs (Advanced) in collaboration that serves as the criteria for admission in engineering in Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) like the IIT/NIT/IIIT/IIST etc. It is regarded to be a prestigious exam to crack for the government sector and it has always been famous for the difficulty level coupled with the competitive challenge faced due to the large number of candidates taking the tests.

JEE Mains is the examination for getting admission into colleges like NIT/IIST. About 12 lakh people on an average appear for the exam every year. The exam also acts as a screening exam for the JEE Advanced for which 1.5 lakh candidates are shortlisted. JEE Advanced in turn acts as the entrance exam for admission into IITs.

For JEE Advanced, candidates are selected on the basis of BOTH JEE Mains as well as Board Exam performance of the candidate. The Normalized rank across different boards decides the student’s selection criteria for the JEE Advanced. The percentage weight given is usually 60% JEE Mains and 40% Board Exam Percentage normalized across different boards.

## JEE Main Paper 1 and Paper 2 formats

JEE Mains consists of two papers. The two papers provide entry into two different streams for college. Paper 1 is meant for admission into B. Tech. programs. The exam consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics parts. Paper 2 is meant for admission into B. Arch/ B. Planning courses that contains tests on Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing (Design).

JEE Mains 2016 Answer Key will be available in due course for Paper 1 i.e. B. Tech. aspirants (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and answers of Paper 2 will be available for Paper 2 i.e. B. Arch./B. Planning aspirants. The answer key will help in calculating the probable score of the candidate which will also provide the necessary knowledge regarding the admission outlook and the type of course the candidate will get into based on the trends from previous year opening and closing ranks.

As per official information in this blog post on JEE Main, the JEE Main will be conducted on 3rd April 2016 and on 9th and 10th April 2016 for pen-paper and computer-based formats respectively. JEE Main 2016 Answer Keys and images of response sheets (OMR sheets) of Pen & Paper based examination & Computer Based Examination will be available on the website of JEE Main for display from April 18, 2016 to April 22, 2016.

JEE Mains Paper 1 contains multiple choice questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each question will carry 4 marks for every right answers and a penalty of -1 (negative 1) is imposed on every wrong answers.

Each year, four sets of question paper of JEE Main is issued for the offline exam. Last year, JEE Mains 2015 had 4 sets Set A, B, C and D for Paper 1. Paper 2 also had four sets of questions in Set W, X, Y and Z last year in 2015.

## JEE Mains 2016 Marks

Score of the candidate =

4*(Number of answers marked correctly by the candidate)-(Number of wrong answers by the candidate)

There are individual subject wise cut off marks for each of the three subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and it will differ from category to category. Usually the individual cut-offs are low and the cumulative cutoff is high.

Cumulative cut-off score for 2014 and 2015 are given in the below table.

The cut-off score is determined by the difficulty level of the exam paper and is also proportional to the availability of the number of seats in the admission process.

### Challenging the JEE Main 2016 Answer Key

Candidates, who are not satisfied with the captured response, can challenge the JEE Main 2016 Answer Key by filling online application form and paying the specified sum per question. The challenge of JEE Main 2016 Answer Key will be accepted online only. The fee can be paid by credit/debit card or e-challan. The fee once paid is non-refundable. Decision of JAB (Joint Admission Board)/CBSE on the challenges will be final and no further communication will be entertained.
