The Joint Entrance Exam is one of the most prestigious entrance exams in India, used to get into several engineering colleges, aside from also serving as the qualification exam for the Join Entrance Exam (Advanced). The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Advanced) is, in turn, the entrance exam for joining any of the IITs. Hence, it is in principal, the entrance exam to some of the best engineering colleges in India, including the IITs. Examples of such colleges include the top NITs like NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal and other colleges like PSG etc. Moreover, science oriented non-engineering colleges like IISC also rely on one’s marks in the JEE.
There have been a few changes in the JEE Main 2018.
- First and foremost, the normalised score of one’s class 12 marks will no longer be used in the declaration of the JEE Main ranks.
- Secondly, 20,000 more students will be eligible to write the JEE (advanced) this year, as compared to last year. This means that 2,20,000 candidates who clear the JEE (main) this year will be eligible to write the JEE (Advanced).
- Also, application for the JEE (Main) examination would require a complete verification process with Aadhar cards.
- Besides these, the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their state level examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) -2018 application form online.
Estimates have shown that the number of students attempting JEE Main has gone down since 2014. In 2014, 12,90,028 appeared for the JEE (Main) while in 2015, it has come down to 12,34,760 and 12,07,058 in 2016. This is good news for the students writing the exams, as the amount of competition in terms of the sheer number is going down.
