New amends
Admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
As per the new amends, Class XII marks will not be a factor for determining rankings in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admissions to engineering undergraduate courses from 2017. However, the eligibility criteria still hold.
How is the JEE (Main) Rank List prepared?
JEE Main Rank List is prepared with the scores of JEE Main. The scores are arranged in merit and the rank is awarded on this basis only.
Which subjects are considered for eligibility?
Since the eligibility criteria still hold, you need to know which subjects are considered for calculating percentile scores.
A total of five subjects are taken into account for the calculation of percentile and normalization of qualifying examination marks. These subjects are Language, Physics, Mathematics, Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject), Any other subject.
Important: In case a candidate has appeared in six subjects in the qualifying examination, the subject (fifth or sixth) with better marks is considered.
What happens in case of a tie?
In case of a tie, i.e. when two or more candidates obtain equal marks, inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided as per the following order:
Rank list for admission to B.E. / B. Tech. (in institutions other than IITs)
- Resolution by marks obtained in Mathematics in JEE (Main) – 2017. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
- Resolution by marks obtained in Physics in the JEE (Main) – 2017. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
- Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having a higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
- If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank
Rank list for admission to B.Arch. / B. Planning (in institutions other than IITs)
- Resolution by marks obtained in Aptitude Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) – 2017. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
- Resolution by marks obtained in Drawing Test in Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) in JEE (Main) – 2017. Candidate obtaining higher marks will be given better rank.
- Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having a higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
- If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates will be given the same rank
How is the final AIR determined?
By arranging the scores in Merit order, the All India JEE Main ranks are determined for JEE Main candidates!
