The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research. This program is run by Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Students have to appear for and qualify an online test to be a part of the program. As such, no particular syllabus is prescribed for the test. However the course content is only what the student has learned till Class 12. The main objective of this test is to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student rather than his/her factual knowledge.

The paper consists of 4 sections – physics, chemistry, maths and biology. In this article, we discuss important topics in mathematics for this exam.
