The KVPY or the “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” scholarship is one of the most prestigious under graduate level scholarship programmes out there. This is an ongoing scholarship programme that was started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, with the mission to tap the best young scientific minds of the country and give them proper amount of exposure in basic science subjects so that they become research-ready.
The KVPY scholarships are fully funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and the exams are conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Students pursuing science in post matriculation level, undergrad courses in basic sciences, and engineering/medical courses are eligible to apply for this renowned fellowship.
KVPY SP (Medicine) for MBBS
To avail a KVPY scholarship during the MBBS degree, the students have to appear in the KVPY SP (Medicine) examination. To be eligible for KVPY SP Medicine, the students must be in their first or second year of their MBBS PROGRAMME. It is compulsory to have a minimum of 75 % marks in the Science subjects in the class 12 examination (65% for SC/ST) or a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC/ST) in the first professional examination of the MBBS program.
The students must submit a biomedical project report along with the application that has been supervised by a certified professional in the respective field. The supervisor must provide two recommendations acknowledging the degree of contribution of the candidate in the project. Based on the performance in the KVPY SP examination and the attached project report, the candidates will be called for an interview in IISC Bangalore.
Fellowships
The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal Government agency, has given the overall responsibility for conducting the scheme to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and set up a National Advisory Committee (NAC) so as to overlook to its proper implementation. A Basic Committee and a National Scientific Committee look after both the administrative and academic aspects of the KVPY Program.
