The NCERT in New Delhi has started the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme as their flagship activity in the year 2017-18. The whole purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students who are in the Economically Backward group and nurture their talents. The talent is in reference to the potentiality a student that is visible and can be realized only when the student is put to a higher test. This scheme is aimed to help and hone talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly Scholarship. This scheme is provided up to class 12th level. Read on to find about appearing for the scholarship exam & how to check your NMMS result.
The examination for this scheme will be conducted on the 3rd of December, 2017. The scholarships will be given to those deserving candidates
- Whose parents have an income of less than 1,50,000/-
- Who have appeared in their class VIII examination
- Who have secured 55% in VII standard examination – for reserved candidates the marks is 50%
- Studying in a government recognized school. Those students who study in an unrecognized institution are not eligible.
Scholarship
Those who will be rewarded the NMMS Scheme will receive a sum of Rs. 500 per month as per the NCERT rules and the Department of Human Research of the Central Government. Scholarships will be provided on the basis of marks scored in the exam & hence checking your NMMS result online becomes important.
Answer Key
The final answer key to the Maharashtra NMMS 2017-18 examinations has been released by the officials. The students, who sat for the examination on the 3rd of December, 2017 can now check the answer key to predict their NMMS result. They students can directly check their answers from the official website.
Admit Card
The Admit card for the National Means – cum – Merit Scholarship Scheme of 2017-18 has been released by the body that conducts the examination. To be able to download the admit card, the candidates have to provide all their credentials such as their School UDISE Code and password. The candidates are advised to check the details in the admit card carefully. The need to note that their entry in the examination hall will be done once the admit card is verified.
Application Forms
The application forms are available online for the Maharashtra NMMS. It is available to schools as per the schedule on the MSCE website – www.mscepune.in.
The State Bank of India challans is also available on the website. The school authorities are authorized to fill the online forms and the S forms. The online forms need to be printed out and along with those, attested copy of caste, disability income certificates, duly signed by the candidate, his or her parents and the principal of the school. The S form print out needs to be signed by the head of the school and the SBI Challan that contains the amount deposited in favor of the MSCE is to be submitted by the school to the respective Education officer or education inspector on or before the last date.
Examination Fee
The fee is Rs. 100/- per student and an affiliation fee of Rs. 200/- per academic year per institution is required. But this has to be done through school via the SBI Challan.
If the form is incomplete or wrongly filled in, they are liable to be rejected and no correspondence will be entertained in relation to the same.
Eligibility Criteria
Those students who have passed Class VIIth securing a minimum of 55% marks. For reserved candidates, this is 50%. These candidates need to be studying in class VIIIth in a government recognized school. The school can be government aided and supported by local bodies, and only those students are eligible to appear for the NMMS examination that is conducted by the state in which the schools are located. The total annual income of the parents should be below 1,50,000/-/ The case certificate, income certificate, disability certificate should be given by the Tahsildar, proper authority or Talathi. Those students who study in Kendriya Vidyalaya or Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are not allowed to get scholarship under this scheme. This scheme is not available to students that study in Residential schools that are run by State Government Institutions where facilities like boarding, lodging and educations are provided. Students who are studying in private schools are not eligible either for the scholarship under the scheme.
Reservation
The NCERT has allotted every State and Union Territory a quote to recommend a specific number of candidates. The scholarship has been allotted on the basis of per state case wise reservation.
A 3% reservation for disabled is provided for in each caste. The scholarship is distributed according to the quota that has been provided for in each district and caste category.

The Exam Pattern
The written examination pattern is as follows
- Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which covers science, maths and social science.
The Selection Process
There is a selection process for the award of scholarship. The selection is done by States and Union Territories via written examination and students who qualify thereafter for the NMMS Scheme.
How to check your NMMS Result
- First of all, visit the website of NMMS. Click here.
- Now a new window will open for login details.
- Enter all the required details, which includes your Seat number, School code, and Districtwise/Castewise name of an area.
- Once you click Show Result, your NMMS result is displayed on the screen.
- Check your result status.
- Now save a copy of it, for further reference.
