AIIMS are one of the most prestigious institutes of our country. To have an AIIMS college in your state is a pretty big deal – it is a sign of progress as more and more students can have quality education near their home. Considering all this, it is a sign of immense progress that Maharashtra’s first AIIMS may soon become a reality.
Maharashtra’s First AIIMS:
The new AIIMS is coming up in sector-20 of Mihan-SEZ, Nagpur in Maharashtra. It will be spread across 150 acres of land. The land has been allocated to the Union ministry of health & family welfare for development of AIIMS on 11 march, 2016. It has been leased for 99 years.
Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC) on behalf of ministry of health & family welfare does construction work of AIIMS across the country. As soon as the land was transferred HSCC started the construction of the compound wall from March 30. It is expected that the construction of the compound wall will be finished in 3 months, i.e. by end of June. After the completion of the compound wall, the construction of the main building will begin.
The design of the of the AIIMS is already decided. However, changes have to be made to include local touch in the design. Concerning this a meeting will be held between the chief architect and the director of ministry of health and family welfare. Then, the construction of the main building will begin. Looking at the pace of the work here, it is expected that the construction work will be completed on time. The time allocated for completing the construction work is 42 months. Post construction phase or commissioning phase will take 6 months more.
The State government will be responsible for providing electricity, water and 4 lane road. The nodal officer of AIIMS Dr. Ravi Chavhan has assured that these works are in the final stage of completion.
Just to bring into notice, the Union Cabinet under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) had given the nod for construction of AIIMS in Maharashtra in October, 2015. The cost has been estimated to be roughly around 1577 crores. The State government was asked to allocate the land for it, which Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis handed over on 11 march 2016. MoUs have been signed with state government of Maharashtra which have agreed to provide encumbrance free land, free of cost, for execution of the work.
The proposal for AIIMS contains a Hospital with 960 beds, teaching, administration and AYUSH blocks, auditorium, Nursing colleges, night shelters. hostels and residential facilities. A lot of planning has gone into making it. The aim for adding the new AIIMS is to address regional imbalances in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary health care services in the region and areas surrounding it.
With Maharashtra’s First AIIMS, the state will have an improved health care service at it’s doorstep as is already existing in other places where AIIMS already exists.
