One of the most prestigious universities in India, the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has its home base in Manipal, Karnataka, India. Formerly known as MAHE, it was only in the year 2006 that it was shortened to Manipal University, due to the fact that ‘Academy’ did not indicate the meaning of University. The founder of the university, Dr. Tonse Madhava decided to transform a barren land into what it is today, a sprawling campus of one of the best universities in all of India. Manipal University started with the foundation of Kasturba Medical College, one of the first medical universities in the private sector industry.
