The National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, (NIFFT) Ranchi is a technical institute which is centrally-funded and was established by the government of India in collaboration with UNDP-UNESCO in the year 1966. The NIFFT later got registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. Today, it is a leading institute in the country for teaching, consultancy, training, research, and documentation. It also deals with all the information retrieval services such as metal casting and metal forming technology. The institute’s management team includes board of governors, members of public and private enterprises, representing govt. of India, technical and R & D organizations.

Academic

Mainly, the NIFFT consists of five teaching departments: Foundry Technology, Forge Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Department of Applied Science and Humanities (DASH) and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. It has a lot of hi-tech laboratories such as the Rapid prototype Lab, Internet Laboratory, CAD-CAM, Ceramic Lab, Sand laboratory, Metallography, mechanical Testing, Spectroscopy, Environmental and Pollution Control Lab, FMS, Non-destructive and Metrology, Electronics, SEM, Computer Centre, Forging Laboratory, etc. The institute also offers Networking Facility to all students and faculty members at the offices. Its workshops and laboratories are effectively equipped with modern instruments for professional training.

Location and Accessibility

The NIFFT campus is situated amidst picturesque surroundings of southern Ranchi. This district in the state of Jharkhand is located a little over 600 m height above mean sea level and has an ideal ambience for academic pursuits, courtesy its pleasant climate all through the year.

Campus

The institute is located on the southern periphery of Ranchi on the Ranchi-Chaibasa highway (Jharkhand). Its spacious campus is spread over an area of 67 acres and it is located at about 6.5 km from Birsa Munda Airport. So, the college is easily accessible from even air transport.

Facilities

As mentioned earlier, the institute has most major facilities like well-equipped labs and workshops, like the Metallography Laboratory, Flexible Manufacturing System and Sand Laboratory. It is also home to many computing facilities like DEFORM, UNIGRAPHICS, PROCAST, CATIA, MATLAB, etc. The other crucial facilities offered inside the campus include sports facility, separate hostel facility for boys and girls, mess facility and library facility canteen.

NIFFT Application Process 2018

The application process is conducted in the offline mode for all the courses. Applicants are required to submit a separate application form for each course. For applying,

  • You need to first download the application form that is available on the website of NIFFT, Ranchi
  • Fill in the application form and send it via post to the Dean, NIIFT Ranchi.
  • Send the application fee through DD in favor of “NIFFT” payable at Ranchi.

Please note that the application fee for Ph.D. is INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST candidates)

Placement

The NIFFT consists of a separate Training and Placement cell, which helps the students for their training and placement-related activities. All the companies who visit the campus are from the core engineering sector like automobiles, foundry and forge plants, iron and steel, etc. The main recruiters of the institute are Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Hero Group, TVS Motors, etc.

Placement Procedure

  1. As per the procedure, the Institute sends an invitation to selected companies for coming to their campus for placements.
  2. After that, they shortlist companies who have expressed their interest in visiting the campus.
  3. The finalised companies conduct pre-placement presentations and discussions with the students on campus. It basically covers the company profile, the selection procedure, the career growth path and the emoluments offered.
  4. Then the date for final recruitment is scheduled, which is done as per the mutual understanding between the Institute and the recruiting company.

NIFFT Scholarship

NIFFT offers a scholarship of INR 25,000 to the students of Ph.D. for the first two years and INR 28,000 per month for the 3rd and 4th year. It also provides the scholarship of INR 2,500 per month to the shortlisted candidates for the Advanced Diploma Course in foundry/forge technology ADC.
