Whether you are a student or a parent, in favour of NEET or against NEET, one thing is true, that in 2016, medical aspirants had a tough time with all the changes and updates unveiled three days before the AIPMT exam (called as NEET 1 later).
With supreme court hearings and due to states issues, NEET 2016 became a cause of tension and nervousness among students and parents. This year, NEET was not fully implemented. But from the year, i.e. 2017, NEET is the only medical entrance exam you need to clear if you would like to do MBBS and BDS courses in any medical college (except AIIMS and JIPMER).
The NEET 2018 exam is tentatively scheduled for May 2018. It will have a total of 180 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology syllabi of Class 11th and 12th. The exam mainly covers topics from the NCERT books prescribed in the CBSE syllabus for 10+2 students. Apart from the topics covered in NCERT books, the exam will also cover topics from the State Board syllabus.
In this article, we bring you the NEET 2018 important chapters, along with the complete syllabus, to kick-start your preparation in the right direction.

It’s crucial to keep a formula sheet for physics, footnotes carrying important keywords for biology and equations sheet for chemistry. You can prepare these while going through the concepts from the book or from the notes that you might have prepared throughout class 11 and class 12.
Here are some important topics we’ve put together for each subject:
NEET 2018 Important Chapters Of Physics
Scope and excitement of physics, physics measurement and world, physical law and technology, physics, society, units and needs of measurement, SI and fundamental units, length measurement, mass measurement, time measurement, measurement errors, accuracy instruments, important of figures, physical dimensional and quantities
Measurement – For the experimental verification of various theories each physical quantity should be known precisely. hence proper measurement of physical quantities with proper instruments are necessary.
Work, Power and Energy – Describe potential energy as energy due to position and derive potential energy as mgh describe kinetic energy as energy due to motion and derive kinetic energy as mv2/2 state conservation of energy laws and solve problems where energy is conserved define power as rate of energy transfer define couple, torque and calculate work done by variable force or torque,. must do topics: Law of Conservation of Energy, Work Kinetic Energy ,Potential Energy, Work Kinetic Energy Theorem
Gravitation – Gravitation is the force of attraction between objects that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of their separation. Objects can range in size from sub-atomic particles to celestial masses, such as planets, stars and galaxies. Other properties of gravitation include attraction to the center or mass, escape velocity and gravity. The concept that matter attracts other objects was formulated by Isaac Newton as the Law of Universal Gravitation. This theory has been superseded by newer theories of gravitation, such as Albert Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity and the Theory of Quantum Gravitation. The Universal Gravitation Equation defines the force of attraction between two objects in ordinary situations. The equation can be simplified to give the gravity equation for objects near Earth. Must do topics .Planetary Motion and Kepler’s Laws , should do topics, Newton’s Law of Gravitation Gravitational Potential, Gravitational Potential Energy ,Planetary Motion and Satellites, Binding Energy, Escape Velocity
NEET 2018 Important Chapters Of Chemistry
Basic information about the chemistry, chemistry scope and important, chemical combination law, abstraction of atoms, molecules and elements, molecules and atom masses, mole description, molar masses, percentage of composition and formula for the molecular, chemical compositions and reactions, stoichiometry and their calculations
Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry (Mole Concept) – You often want to know how many molecules you have in a sample of a substance. Counting the molecules individually would be completely impractical. Even if you had a way to see the individual molecules, there are just too many, even in a tiny sample. Moles were defined to solve the problem of counting large numbers of molecules. With moles, you count the number of molecules in the sample by weighing it. Important topics are Mole Fraction, Stoichiometry, Molarity, Molality, Equivalent mass and Normality, Atomic Number, Mass Number and Isotopes, Avagardo’s Law and Percent Composition. This is one of the basic chapter in chemistry and low weightage chapter from exam point of view.
Atomic Structure – The structure of an atom, theoretically consisting of a positively charged nucleus surrounded and neutralized by negatively charged electrons revolving in orbits at varying distances from the nucleus, the constitution of the nucleus and the arrangement of the electrons differing with various chemical elements. Important topics in this chapter are Bohr model, Heisenberg uncertainty principle, Debroglie equation, Photoelectric effect and Hydrogen Effect. This is very important chapter from exam point of view and at least one question do appear in the exam every time. This is a low input and high yield chapter.
NEET 2018 Important Chapters Of Biology
You have to cover both the zoology and biology subject. Diversity and biodiversity, classification needs, three types of domain life, systematic and taxonomy, information about the species, taxonomy, binomial theory, tools and types of taxonomy- zoos, botanical garden, herbaria, Museums, five types of kingdom classification, mineral classification and its features, fungi and Protista
Biology in human welfare – Biology is the youngest of the formalised disciplines of natural science. Progress in physics and chemistry proceeded much faster than in Biology. Applications of physics and chemistry in our daily life also have a higher visibility than those of biology. However, twentieth century and certainly twenty-first century has demonstrated the utility of biological knowledge in furthering human welfare, be it in health sector or agriculture. The discovery of antibiotics, and synthetic plant-derived drugs, anesthetics have changed medical practice on one hand and human health on the other hand. Life expectancy of human beings have dramatically changed over the years. Agricultural practices, food processing and diagnostics have brought socio-cultural changes in human communities. This is medium importance unit in Biology Section. About 7-8 questions may be asked from this unit every year. The high weightage chapter from this unit is Human Health & Diseases.
Genetics and Evolution – The work of Mendel and others who followed him gave us an idea of inheritance patterns. However the nature of those ‘factors’ which determine the phenotype was not very clear. As these ‘factors’ represent the genetic basis of inheritance, understanding the structure of genetic material and the structural basis of genotype and phenotype conversion became the focus of attention in biology for the next century. The entire body of molecular biology was a consequent development with major contributions from Watson, Crick, Nirenberg, Khorana, Kornbergs (father and son), Benzer, Monod, Brenner, etc. A parallel problem being tackled was the mechanism of evolution. Awareness in the areas of molecular genetics, structural biology and bio informatics have enriched our understanding of the molecular basis of evolution. This is an important unit in Biology Section. About 12-13 questions may be asked from this unit every year. The high weightage chapter in this unit is Molecular Basis of Inheritance.
You need to keep a check on the time you take over one chapter. Your pace should be good enough so that the important topics of NEET are not left out. If you practice multiple choice questions (MCQs) along with the syllabus chapters, this will help you figure out the exam pattern.
Class 11 is the ideal time to kick off your NEET preparation. Class 8th is too early, and after that, well, will be too late. Join a coaching, settle in for the hard work, and grind yourself for the upcoming 2 years!
