Admission Procedure
Students are admitted to the undergraduate programs on the basis of their score in Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) – Mains conducted by the MHRD’s Central Board of Secondary Education. This exam is conducted every year during the first week of April and the admission process starts in the month of June. The admission process for all the Indian nationals takes place through the common portal of Joint Seat Allocation Authority. Fifty percent of seats are reserved under Home State category for Delhi and Chandigarh students. The remaining fifty percent seats are filled by students from other states.
How to apply?
- Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) is the common platform through which admission to IITs, NITs, and other GFTIs will take place, so the admission process will start only after the results of JEE Advanced are announced.
- Once the portal is opened for the students, the students first have to register themselves and fill the choices for the colleges in the order of preference within the stipulated time frame. After that, there will be a mock seat allocation displaying the colleges that the student might get based on the choices filled.
- After the mock seat allocation, the students will have one another and final opportunity to edit the choices filled. After that, there will be around 6 rounds of seat allotment.
- After each round, the students have to report to the respective reporting centers with the necessary documents and the fill the form of seat acceptance, wherein they will have to state whether they want the ‘Freeze’, ‘Slide’ or ‘Float’ option. Details on each of these options can be obtained here.
- After all the rounds of seat allotment, the students directly have to report to the institute they have been allotted, during any of the 3 days of reporting time specified and failing to do so might result in cancellation of their admission.
- The relevant information and dates related to JEE 2017 counselling can be obtained here.
Admission for foreign nationals is carried out by Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) under the MHRD. The admissions are on the basis of the SAT score of the eligible candidates. The number of seats available for foreign nationals in each branch at NIT Delhi is 4 and these are over and above the intake (currently 60) of each branch.
Admissions to the M. Tech. Programs are made on the basis of their performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
