National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) conducts a national scholarship examination called The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for awarding scholarships to class 10th students. In the following article, we will go through the important NTSE Exam dates to be noted by those who are keen for the exam.
Introduction
In the year 1963, NCERT had launched National Talent Search Exam or National Science Talent Search Scheme with an aim to identify the talented students and grant them with a scholarship to pursue their further education. It is a two-tier/stage exam and it tests the candidates for their Language (There will be 50 questions for the language paper carrying a total of 50 marks and the time duration will be 45 minutes), Mental (50 objective type questions for one mark each. Candidates will be provided 45 minutes to attempt the test) and Scholastic (a total of 100 marks and will be carrying 100 questions) abilities. Only the respective state or UT conducts the Stage 1 exam of NTSE and the National Council of Educational Research and Training conducts the Stage 2 exam. As many as 1000 scholarships every year are awarded to the candidates who are shortlisted through this two-tiered examination. As per the eligibility criteria, only Class X students are eligible to appear for NTSE.
Important dates of the NTSE
Application Form Dates of NTSE 2018 – Application process for NTSE 2018 began in the month of August 2017.
Months before the examination is held by the NCERT, students can check formally announced NTSE Important Dates 2018 for both the stages on the official website. Following are the list of NTSE 2018 crucial dates and stay alert for each event related to the scholarship exam.
- Notification released on July 31, 2017
- NTSE Application process starts from August 2017
- Last Date for Submission of NTSE 2018 Application Form for Stage-I to be notified by the respective State/UT and may vary from State to State usually conducted in July
- Stage-I Exam in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Andaman and Nicobar Islands is on 04 November 2017 (Saturday)
- Stage-I Exam in all other respective States and Union Territories is on 05 November 2017 (Sunday)
- Stage-II National level Exam in all States and Union Territories is on 13 May, 2018 (Sunday)
- Final Result of NTSE 2018 is on last week of August 2018
The NCERT manage National Talent Search Examination for students studying in Class X with the sole aim to bring up the ability of students. There are two levels in which the exam is conducted every year; Stage-1 is for state level and Stage-2 is for national level. The NTSE important dates 2018 are confirmed by the NCERT in its announcement for the aspiring and eligible candidates.
NTSE Application Form 2018
The application form of NTSE 2018 was available in online mode or offline mode. Each state or UT was provided their own application form for stage 1 examination of NTSE 2018. Candidates need to fill and submit the application form of NTSE stage 1 before the last date of application as mentioned by their respective state or UT. Candidates need to contact the Liaison Officer of the state for queries related to application form submission. Candidates need to dispatch the application fee for NTSE stage 1 exam as mentioned by the states. However, candidates need not submit an application form to NCERT and also no fee required for NTSE 2017 stage 2 to be conducted by NCERT.

NTSE Result
For each conducting state or UT, the NTSE result 2018 for stage 1 exam is announced separately. Candidates can only login in through the official link and check their NTSE Result 2018 for stage 1 exam. The registration number or roll number and date of birth are required by the aspiring candidates to log in and check their qualifying status for NTSE 2018 stage 1 exam. This is a qualifying exam and hence the candidates who will qualify the stage 1 exam will only be eligible to appear for the national level stage 2 exam of NTSE 2018 conducted by NCERT. In the month of June 2018, the result of stage 2 exam of NTSE will be announced in online mode. Scholarships will be awarded to those candidates who will qualify the national level NTSE 2018 exam.
There are a number of Indian students studying abroad. Under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure of Class X, which is available on NCERT website, they can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination. Candidates need to fill up relevant items of the Application Form available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with the photocopy of the mark sheet of the previous examination latest by Dec 31.
