Patna University is located at Bihar and was established in the year 1917 with colleges and institutions that cover areas of study including medicine, engineering, law, science, arts, commerce, and teacher training. On January 2, 1952 it was converted into a purely teaching -cum-residential University with the territorial jurisdiction over the Metropolitan Patna. Since 1974, the university has a Directorate of Distance Education for conducting postgraduate studies in distance education. It takes care of the examinations for educational institutions ranging from school finals to the PG levels. The college has 5 laboratories, in separate buildings, and offers courses in botany, zoology, geology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics and management, as well as vocational courses.
Patna University Application Form 2017 for UG and PG courses will be available from May 2017. Candidates can apply after the official notice is released.
Admission Process
Patna University conducts entrance examinations (PUPCET (UG), MILET (Law), BEET (B.Ed.) & MEET (M.Ed.) for all the courses, except for the PG, diploma and certificate courses. Time duration of PU entrance exams ranges from one and a half hour to three hours (depending on the course for which aspirants have applied for).
The entrance examination is an essential part of the admission process for the majority of the courses offered at Patna University. The aspirants need to first clear the entrance test and when selected, shall appear for an interview round/group discussion.
Application Process
Candidates can submit the PU application form through the online mode only, for admissions.
Aspirants can pay the application fee by Credit Card/Debit Card/Net banking/E-Challan. In case of E-Challan, the application fee can be paid in any branch of the Indian Bank.
Admit Card
Aspirants will receive the admit card on their registered email IDs. They can also download the admit cards from the university’s official website. The candidates need to log on to the admission portal of the university and take a printout of their respective admit cards.
After this, aspirants need to paste their self-attested passport size (colored) photograph on their admit card and carry the same to their test centre on the date of examination.

- Candidate must be 10+2 (Higher Secondary) qualified from a recognized board, for the admission in UG course.
- Candidate must be a Graduate from a recognized university, for the admission in UG course.
- For taking admission in PG courses at Patna University: Aspirants must have passed their Graduation degree in the relevant stream from a recognized University or Institution.
- To take admission in MBA course in Patna University: Candidates must carry a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution or must have appeared in MAT, CAT, XAT, ATMA and JMET.

This faculty consists of the departments of physics, chemistry, mathematics, botany, zoology, statistics, and Geology.

Each of this faculty comprises only one department namely, law, education, commerce, fine arts and BDS.
Traditional and Distance Education
The university and its affiliated colleges and institutions offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different areas like law, teacher training, science, arts, commerce, medicine and engineering. Admission in these courses is mainly based on the result of higher secondary (10+2) and graduation (10+2+3) level results, respectively. The aspirants for research level programs have to sit for a qualifying test (RET) followed by an interview. Since 1974, the university also has a Directorate of Distance Education for conducting postgraduate studies in distance education.

- Lalu Prasad
Lalu Prasad Yadav is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar. He was the Chief Minister of Bihar from 1990 to 1997 and Minister of Railways from 2004 to 2009 in the ruling United Progressive Alliance government. He is the President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal political party. He was a Member of Parliament of 15th Lok Sabha from the Saran constituency in Bihar.
- Anugrah Narayan Sinha
Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha, known as Bihar Vibhuti, was an Indian statesman who was the first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of the Indian state of Bihar. He was also a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India, which was elected to write the Constitution of India and served in its first Parliament as an independent nation. Ravi Shankar Prasad is an Indian lawyer, politician and the present Union Minister holding Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Government of India. He has adopted the village Alawalpur under Fatuha block of Patna district as a model village to be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana. He is a Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
- Tathagat Avatar Tulsi
Tathagat Avatar Tulsi is an Indian physicist, best known as a child prodigy. He completed high school at the age of 9, earned a B.Sc. at the age of 10 and a M.Sc. at the age of 12 from Patna Science College. In August 2009, he got his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore at the age of 22. In July 2010, he was offered a position as the Assistant Professor on contract at IIT Bombay.
- Sushil Kumar Modi
Sushil Kumar Modi is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party and was a former Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Bihar, India. He is a lifelong member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He was appointed the Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers for the Implementation of Goods and Service Tax in July 2011.

Bindheshwar Pathak is an Indian sociologist. He is the founder of Sulabh International, an India-based social service organization, which works to promote human rights, environmental sanitation, non-conventional sources of energy, waste management and social reforms through education.
- Srinivas Kumar Sinha
Lieutenant General Srinivas Kumar Sinha, PVSM is an Indian soldier. After his retirement, he served as the Governor of the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Assam.
Facilities
The Patna University buildings are situated on the banks of the river Ganges and in the Saidpur Campus. The University’s sprawling campus is spread over an area of 180-acres stretching a distance of 10 kms. A fully functional University Works Department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the University buildings.
The University operates its own press from the campus with limited infrastructure. The press has two mono typing machines apart from other sophisticated equipment and instruments. PU’s sports and cultural boards keep the campus buzzing with activity throughout the year.
The University’s computer centre has its Local Area Network and has linked the University main office to this network in Phase 1. The Phase 2 of the campus networking from Law College to Darbhanga House is scheduled to start soon and Phase 3 for total campus networking will be initiated upon receipt of the grant for the purpose.
College Library
The Central Library caters to the needs of the students and teachers, research scholars, etc. and is located in the centre of the campus. It has been connected to internet and steps are being taken to computerize the working. The University Central Library is rendering its services to the teachers, students and researchers for 24 hours. The number of various volumes at present is over 4, 00, 000 besides the 87 periodicals and 50,000 back journals. It has more than 5000 valuable old manuscripts, which are very rare and used by research scholars. The Library is working towards establishing an e-resource centre, e-journal facilities and getting transformed into a Digital model.
The vision of the Patna University is to become a modern, 21st Century institution and a national centre of excellence. This will be achieved by developing physical and ICT infrastructure and human resources. Patna University is conscious of its commitment to provide assistance to weaker sections of the society, to achieve acceptable levels of literacy, and to impart skills to the underprivileged. It will also soon start new faculties, departments, centers and new Post-Graduate Courses and initiate research in some of these thrust areas.
