The Sainik School Bijapur (SSBJ) was established on 16th of September, 1963. It started off as temporary shelters back then. It was the 13th Sainik school to be set up in the country in the 1960’s. SSBJ is the thirteenth in the series of Sainik schools set up across the country in the 1960’s. The SSBJ was initially situated in a tiny corner at the Vijaya College in Bijapur.
The management of the Bijapur based college was kind enough to lend the school a portion of their building. It was here where they conducted their morning assembly and where they housed their library and the classrooms. The present permanent campus of 406 acres that is located on Athani Road Bijapur was established in the month of November 1966.
The then Vice President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain, declared the school campus formally functioning on the 17th of December,1966. The school by then was offering the secondary school leaving certificate (SSC) at the completion of course. At present, the SSBJ offers a complete CBSE curriculum.
The name of the city Bijapur of is believed to have been derived from the Sanskrit term for victory. Bijapur is steeped in history, it has a rich heritage and houses some the most interesting monuments that date back to the 1500s and onwards. Bijapur is famous for the Gol Gumbaz, it is the largest unsupported single dome structure in the world. Another impressive structure is the Ibrahim Rouza, Both these architectural marvels were built by the AdilShahi kings.
Situated at the Karnataka bordering Maharashtra, Bijapur is the headquarters of the district administration. The railway line that runs from Hubli, in the heart of Karnataka to the city of Solapur in Maharashtra, Bijapur forms an important point on it. It is also an important point on the National Highway 13 since that connects Solapur with Bangalore passing through Bijapur.
The aim of Sainik School Bijapur
The aim of Sainik School Bijapur is to prepare the boys who study with them, mentally, psychologically, physically and academically to be able to enter the National Defence Academy in Khadakvasla, Pune and in other walks of life too.
Sainik School Bijapur: Admission for 2018
The applications are to be made in the prescribed form. The application can be submitted by boys who are seeking admission to Class VI and IX. Girls are not admitted to this school. There is an entrance examination that the candidates need to sit for. Henceforth, 2018 onwards the entrance examination will be OMR based and conducted in place of the descriptive pattern.

Result Announcement
The candidates that are chosen for SSBJ will be admitted on the basis of the merit secured in the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination. The results for the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination, which was held on the 7th of January, 2018, has been announced. The candidates can visit the official website to check their results. The selected candidates then have to further appear for the Medical Examination as well as an Interview.
Application Form for the Examination
The Application form is available on the school’s website – www.sssbj.in . It is available from the 16th of October, 2017 until the 30th of November, 2017.
The Application form can be secured by making a payment of the application fee via Demand Draft that is drawn in favor of the Principal, Sainik School, Bijapur. This needs to be accompanied with the application form, two self-addressed cloth lined or thick envelope of the size 9” x 7” with a postal stamp of Rs. 41 for the speed post affixed on the envelope and submitted to the office. Eligibility Criteria
Class 6th – Those boys who are born between 02.07.2007 and 01.07.2008 (inclusive of both dates). Class is not a criteria
Class 9th – Those boys who are born between 2.07.2004 and 01.07.2005 (both days inclusive) and have passed the class 8th examination at the time of the admission.

Reservation
There is a 15% reservation for SC, 7.5% reservation for ST and thereafter from the remaining 67% of the seats, it is reserved for the boys who are from that particular state in which the Sainik School is located.
The remainder of the 33% of seats shall be thrown open to boys who are from the rest of India. 25% is also reserved for those boys who are sons of services personnel including ex-servicemen.
Annual Fee
The annual fee for the school is 72,600/-. The diet charge is 30975/-.
