Sainik School Nagrota was located at Nagrota, NH1A, Jammu and was established in 1970. Sainik School Nagrota is managed by the Sainik Schools Society under Ministry of Defense. It offers students attain high levels of physical, mental and intellectual serenity, shaping their attitudes and hence provide a meaningful approach to life in general and develop them into responsible citizens and future leaders.

 Admission into Sainik School Nagrota:

The administration of Sainik School is vested in an autonomous body known as Sainik Schools Society under Ministry of Defence, India. Sainik Schools Society is headed by the Board of Governors under the Chairmanship of Raksha Mantri (Union Minister of Defense). The Chief Ministers/Education Ministers of the states where the Sainik Schools are located are members of the Board of Governors. There is a Local Board of Administration for each school with a senior defense service officer as its Chairman.

The General Officer Commanding of 57 Mountain Division is Chairman of Local Board of Administration of the school.

Admissions are given in Class VI, Class IX, and Class XI. Admission for classes VI and IX is carried out on the basis of an entrance exam usually held in January.

Notice Regarding Call Letter

  • The issue of Call up letters for AISSEE – 2018, scheduled to be held on 15 Apr 18, is under process.
  • Candidates desirous of making any correction with respect to Language of Paper, Choice of Centre, Change of Category etc. are directed to submit their request to the Principal, Sainik School Nagrota, through e-mail, latest by March 23, 2018.
  • For the change of category, candidates are to submit documentary evidence along with request letter and difference of fee, as applicable. No refund from the school would be made on account of Change of Category.
  • Requests received after March 23, 2018, will not be entertained.

How to Apply for Sainik School Admission 2018?

The candidate has to go to the official site and then they can find the link for applying on the website. After that, the candidate has to fill up the necessary pieces of information and then pay the requisite fee. Now submit your application.

Note: The application forms and prospectus will not be given to any coaching centre or any institute. The forms will be available for on individuals. There would be only two prospectuses allowed for one person, not more than two.

Eligibility Criteria

FOR CLASS VI: Boys between 10-11 years (i.e boys born between 02 Jul 2007 and 01 Jul 2008, both days inclusive)

FOR CLASS IX: Boys between 13-14 years (i.e boys born between 02 Jul 2004 to 01 Jul 2005, both days inclusive ) and passed class VIII from a recognized school.

Written Exam

The candidates who apply for Sainik School Admission 2018 will have to give the written test first. The medium of examination for class Vl will be English, Hindi or Urdu. The medium for examination for class lX will be English only.


The written test is followed by an interview with the students of both the classes VI and IX. Only the shortlisted candidates will be called to appear for the interview. The number of shortlisted candidates will be decided to keep in view the number of boys to be admitted in that particular academic session. The merit list is prepared on the basis of aggregate marks secured in the written test and interview. Merely qualifying for the written test does not confer any right for admission. Boys are selected strictly in accordance with the final merit list. The number of boys to be selected depends on the number of existing vacancies. The result of the written test is published in the leading newspapers of J&K. However, the candidates of other states who qualify for written examination are intimated by post.

Medical Examination

All boys, before admission to Sainik School, are medically examined by a Board consisting of Military Medical Specialists. Standards of health and medical fitness for admission are determined by the standards prescribed for NDA keeping in view the tender age of the boys and scope of their growth. In case of rejection on medical grounds, the parents can appeal against the decision of Medical Board through the School for holding a Review Medical board.

Selection Process

Through All over India, candidates apply for Sainik School. The candidates will be shortlisted according to the score in Entrance Test. Shortlisted candidates will go for Personal Interview and the candidates who will be selected after PI will go for Medical Fitness Test. After the Medical Test, the remained candidates will be able to join Sainik School.


The State Government as well as Ministry of Defence award scholarships to the boys studying in the Sainik Schools on merit-cum-means basis. The award of Scholarship, is, however, subject to the decision of scholarship granting authorities and the school do not give any guarantee in this regard.


Candidates will be admitted based on the merit in All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination. The result will be announced after the written examination. The shortlisted candidates will go the interview. After the interview process, the candidates will be shortlisted for the medical exam. The candidates who will pass the medical exam will be able to study in Sainik school Nagrota.


Sainik School Nagrota is located in Nagrota town on the banks of river Tawi on National Highway (NH1). The school is at a distance of 18 km from the Jammu railway station.

Chinar Primary School

The school runs a primary school called Chinar Primary School. Principal, Sainik School Nagrota is Chairman of the school. the chinar Primary school is not fully boarding school. its a day school.


The school has well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, Art Gallery, Play Ground, Auditorium, Infirmary, Library, Guest House.


The school has a central mess which caters food to all cadets in one sitting. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available. It is managed by a Mess manager.

Cadet Dormitories

The school is fully residential. All cadets are accommodated in Dormitories (known as Houses) under the direct supervision of Housemasters who act as their guides and guardians. The housemasters are assisted in their job by Matron/Hostel Superintendents who take care of cadets’ personal hygiene and comforts.
