This article will provide all the information you need to know about SBI PO exams. The State Bank of India conducts SBI PO every year to fill up vacancies for the post of a probationary officer. More than 20 lakh candidates take this examination each time while the total number of vacancies is limited to only 2000.

The official notification from the SBI came out on 21st April 2018 and marked the beginning of the registration process. The same is to end on 13th May 2018 and those who meet the criterions mentioned by SBI can apply for the examination.

Tentatively, the preliminary exam will be held on 1st, 7th and 8th July 2018 while the main exam will be held on 20th August 2018.

 

The eligibility criterion for application – SBI PO

The following is the mandatory conditions for registering for the examination:

  1. The candidate must have a graduation degree from any recognized university or an equivalent of any university that is recognized by the central government. The candidate must also possess a certificate or degree that supports the same.
  2. The candidate must have basic computer knowledge.
  3. The candidate is required to have written and oral proficiency in the official language of the state.
  4. The age limits for application is between 21 years to 30 years. The same is subject to a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST, 3-year relaxation for OBC (non-creamy layer), and 10 years relaxation for PWD and 5 years relaxation for Ex-Servicemen.

 

Selection process and exam pattern

There are three phases in the selection process. There is a preliminary examination, main examination and the interview.

The preliminary exam is an online examination with a total duration of one hour. The three sections included in this paper are English, numerical aptitude and reasoning aptitude. The total marks allotted for this paper is 100 and the candidate gets 1 mark for right answer whereas one-fourth of the allotted mark to the question is reduced for every incorrect one. The English section has 30 questions; the numerical aptitude section has 35 questions whereas the reasoning section has 35 questions. The student is required to pass this exam in order to qualify for the main examination.

The main examination is an online examination with a total duration of 3 hours. The 4 sections with objective questions are reasoning/computer, data interpretation and analysis, general awareness and English. Reasoning /computer has 45 questions with the total of 60 marks (60 minutes), data interpretation and analysis has 35 questions for 60 marks (45 minutes), general awareness has 40 questions for 40 marks (35 minutes) and English has 35 questions for 40 marks (40 minutes). Apart from this, there is a descriptive paper for the duration of 30 minutes with the total marks of 50.  This is conducted in English and has letter writing, essay writing and the like. The marks obtained by various students are arranged in a descending order and some will be selected and called for an interview. The marks in the interview will also determine whether the candidate will be selected or not.

The preliminary exam marks have no role in the final list. The main exam and the interview marks are considered for formulating the list.

How do you apply for the SBI PO examination?

The process of application is strictly online. There are some prerequisites for online application. An email ID, a scanned copy of signature and picture are some of the basics that must be ready before the student applies for the exam. The registration fee will have to be paid and is fixed as Rs. 100 for SC/ST/PWD and Rs. 600 for general category and others. The same will be paid through the official website of SBI itself.

Once the student applies, they are advised to keep a check on the website for admit card updates and other important announcements. The admit card for the exam is also released on the website and must be downloaded from the internet.
