Music is something that helps us speak our heart out without actually having to speak.

Stuck here,
In the middle of nowhere
With a headache
And a heavy heart

…are the lines of a famous song by Coldplay. Just like numerous other songs, this is exactly one that untangles the knot of feelings and emotions going on in your head and heart. You, as youngsters would clearly understand which feelings I am pointing out to. Yes, all of us get stuck badly at some point or the other in our lives. While walking on a path, it is obvious to have rocks and pits in the way. And it is quite possible and justifiable for you to fall down while you are learning to walk. What counts is how well you stand up again and resume your walk.

Stress

In every living being’s life, there comes a point when one feels depressed and pessimistic about anything and everything that happens in his/her life. On the verge of coping with the minor pressures in life, an individual himself unconsciously frames a net and is caught in the same. This is the point when stress tries to be friends with you. And you, being unable to find any other companion, fail to resist being friends with the negative feeling. Stress is how the body responds to a demanding or a threatening experience. You feel stressed when you are under pressure to do something or when you have to deal with an adverse situation. Everyone experiences stress, and teenagers are no exception. Teen stress is the result of enduring anxiety and worry that adolescents sometimes experience. Every teenage girl and boy feel stressed at some point in time. While some feel severe stress, there are others who aren’t as affected by it.

Stress works as an alarm clock that lets you know you’re attached to something that’s not true for you,” are the words of Byron Katie, an American speaker and author who teaches a method of self-inquiry known as “The Work of Byron Katie” or simply as “The Work”.

Indeed, through the course of your entire lifetime, no matter what you do, if there is anything that causes you stress, you need to question yourself whether your actions are right or not. For instance, if you have an exam and you have prepared well for it, there is no point of having stress.  On the other hand, if you have an exam and you haven’t prepared for it yet, being stressed then, would be justified and that would imply you have to work on it. Teenagers worrying about things like completing school work, projects, and reports, studying for an exam, and about the colleges to apply to is acceptable to an extent where it encourages the teenager to get better grades at school or in college. But if it is affecting their cognitive abilities and taking a toll on their health, it is a concern.

Some Numbers

If we go with the facts, about 8, 00,000 people commit suicide worldwide every year; of these 135,000 i.e. 17% are residents of India, a nation with 17.5% of world population. In India, about 46,000 suicides occurred in 15-29 age groups in 2012, which is about 34% of all suicides. Moreover, 80% of the suicide victims were proved to be literate, higher than the national average literacy rate of 74%. What is alarming is that 28.65 lakh youngsters aged 10-24 have suffered depressive disorders in 2013. The above-mentioned facts surely prove that the education system of a country like India does not work in support of the children getting educated. This definitely proves that there is a dire need for the concerned authorities to wake up from their slumber. In this case, You are your own authority.

Since India is a country with exorbitant population, one man stepping forward would never be able to bring a change in the entire society. So as individuals, we should bring changes in our own self and deal with the reality. Parents need to realize the fact that today, we have reached that point of time where a student can touch the sky in any field. The fact that money can be made even from the things that your child loves to do, should make parents liberal with their child’s education. Even though it isn’t intentional, it’s stressing young children and let them take their own course of action. It has to stop; or at least change.

Pressurized minds tend to lose their ability. In the age of technology, there are numerous things that develop a child in every possible field. You, as children need to perceive education as education and not as a life threatening examination. Work as hard as you can and then leave it all. There is no point stressing over exams that have already passed. If, somehow you failed to satisfy yourself in an exam, take it is an inspiration and work harder the next time. Even board exams should not be given the right to menace you. Even for the competitive exams that most of you might be appearing in, you should keep in mind that yes, getting into a great college is a matter of pride and a question on your career but trust me, it all depends on how you perform in a college. You need to do your best in every task that you undertake and leave the rest.

No matter what problem you are in, believe the fact that there is always a way out. You must not be a pseudo to keep your own self in a rosy world and when confronted with the actual situation, you’re unable to handle, thus throwing yourself into a stressful situation. Reach out to your friends for emotional support, talk to your parents about any other dilemma and for all your educational queries, you can always reach out to us. We’re happy to help J

A Few Guidelines

  • Prepare a schedule to start studying for the forthcoming exams, weeks in advance.
  • More importantly, follow the timetable that you have prepared for yourself to have hassle-free preparations for exams.
  • Make sure you’re done with the entire syllabus before at least 10 days of your first exam.
  • Be clear with all the basic concepts, rather than just cramming it all.
  • Clear all your doubts to avoid any regrets.
  • Replace junk food with healthy options like avocados, berries, dark chocolate, milk, and turkey. A healthy diet is necessary to alleviate the tension that the body accumulates.

The only thought that should linger around in your mind should be that you are never alone. There is always someone to help you out, irrespective of the situation you are in. If it is anything related to education, we at Toppr are always happy to help 🙂
