physics-iit-jee

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is every engineering aspirant’s dream. But, we all know that the task of cracking the JEE is as good as scoring a six on Shoaib Akhtar’s ball (well, almost)! Though it is tough, it’s not impossible. Especially when it comes to the topic ‘Sound’ in the subject Physics (which we’ll be discussing today), you need to know that no trick or shortcut is ever going to work for you. The questions asked from this topic are relatively easier to solve but too error-prone at the same time. You don’t really need to be a Padhaku-type, but a little honesty and discipline will go long way.

So, here are a few tricks to help you sail through Sound with ease.

A Straightforward Approach

Unlike others, Sound is very basic and sometimes involves cumbersome calculations to arrive at the correct answers. You might have figured out that most of the questions coming in the JEE are based solely on the taught algorithms and can be easily done by applying the concepts in the correct order. While the above statement might not entirely be true for some problems, but these questions can also be cracked by using a little common sense and intuition. Another advantage in this topic is that you can easily arrive at some answers or overcome little problems by guesswork, which is underestimated greatly by students.

Stick to the Standard Study Material

There is not much variety available in the study material for Sound, so the standard syllabus questions should suffice easily as the JEE usually doesn’t contain many tricks in this part. Also, sometimes the questions are combined with other topics and can prove to be difficult. But the best approach, in that case, is usually going for a stepwise solution and solving the problem by breaking it up into parts.

Never Forget the Formulae

As a student of basic physics, you are not expected to reinvent the wheel – or even understand how the wheel was invented in the first place. What you are expected to do is to understand the concepts and use the tools available to you. Some professors will require that you memorize relevant formulas, while others will give you a “cheat sheet.” Either way, you have what you need. Memorization might sound horrible, but most physics subjects don’t have that many equations to memorize. Don’t forget to mug up the formulae as nothing can be done without them.

Don’t Panic

Sounds obvious, right? And yet, it’s harder than it sounds. You look at the question and the sentences loom at you menacingly, confusing you to no end. You have no idea where to start, even if you recognize the basic concepts. Whose cars go in which direction? What type of wave travels on the string? Help me, you think in terror. Help me…! This is the time to take a deep breath, close your eyes, and count to five. You can do that.

Give It a Bit More Importance

Doppler’s effect, the most important topic in the entire course of Sound often attracts a large number of sums. Well, the trick is that you need to know the basics in order to clear up these question. Adding to that is the requirement of an individual to catch the tricky part of it. So, mastering this topic is important to score well in Sound.

Practice, Practice & More Practice

Keep revising the things already studied. Any topic must be refreshed at frequent intervals, otherwise, the concepts might get wiped off from your memory. It’s better to put in efforts at regular intervals than to watch all your studying go down the drain at the last minute.

The Last Phase

As soon as you think you are pretty confident with the topic, you should give a try to solve past years’ question papers. This is the most productive way to judge your preparation and gain confidence at the same time.

Here are a few additional tips to master JEE Sound:-

  • There is not much variety of problems available on this topic. Hence, the available questions would suffice for JEE.
  • Imagination is very important to understand the concepts. It is beneficial to analyze the problem and try to guess the answer.
  • Try to verify your actual result with the estimated one a couple of times and you will be predicting the answer accurately enough.
  • Attention should be paid to the minute details in the given question and take sufficient time to comprehend various little concepts. This is because even a little mistake in one part can lead to a completely different answer, which would be totally wrong.

This was an attempt to help you cope up with the topic in a strategic way. If you keep an eye on the things mentioned above, you will surely be able to get the most out of it. For more tips on other subjects, visit us at TopprBytes. 🙂

All the best for your future endeavours! 😀
