AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education is a national level council constituted under Higher Education Department of the country. The council is liable for efficient planning and synchronized growth of technical education in India. In order to expedite economic growth of the country, a periodic review of quality and curriculum of technical education imparted at Indian colleges is necessary. AICTE ensures that the engineering colleges abide by the technological needs of the country and deliver only latest and effective education. AICTE accredited graduate and post-graduate courses that are taught at engineering institutions spread all across India.
As per rulings under the AICTE Act, the council’s role is to provide recommendations and guidance to the institutions affiliated by AICTE. There are numerous engineering colleges proffering degree/ diploma courses in various engineering departments. Only the colleges that are recognized and approved by AICTE are deemed worthy and thus students must thoroughly check the certification and approval of the institute before registering for admissions. This approval is imperative for all engineering institutes so that the quality and content of curriculum can be monitored on a regular basis. The courses are upgraded and improved by AICTE depending upon the developmental changes in the arena of technical education.

In an endeavour to make quality education accessible to all, several engineering colleges are approved by AICTE. These colleges may impart admissions on the basis of national level entrance examinations or may conduct private entrance tests. Many of the AICTE approved colleges admit students through JEE Main and JEE Advanced which are both all India level engineering entrance exams. There are hundreds of colleges in India that come under AICTE affiliation. The council grants affiliation on the basis of the institutes’ infrastructure, faculty, courses offered, and the facilities provided by the institute so that the students get the best technical education.
