Oprah Winfrey, an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist once remarked, “For every one of us that succeeds, it’s because there’s somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn’t always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and school.”

To define this 6-letter word in the simplest way, one would say that school is an institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students under the direction of teachers.

Most countries have systems of formal education, which is commonly compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools. Various schools are affiliated to various boards. India has primarily 4 boards of school education, as follows-

  • ICSE i.e. Indian School Certificate Examination is a private body that was founded in year 1956 to set and adapt University of Cambridge’s examination system to India.
  • State Boards; for State Boards, each state has its own board of education that conducts certificate examination for class 10 and class 12. Some state boards, such as Rajasthan board also conduct exams in class 8.
  • IB i.e. International Baccalaureate is a non-profit educational foundation that was founded in 1968 and now works with over 3000 schools in 141 countries. Their vision is on all round development of the student into an inquiring, caring and knowledgeable young individual.
