How should I prepare?

  • Know your exam: Every examination is tailored to meet the needs of the institutions it caters to. Different institutions have different criteria for selecting students and hence conduct separate exams. Knowing and understanding the pattern of the examination and types of questions is an indispensable part of your preparation.
  • Be thorough with your basics: Most of the question in such examinations are asked with the motive of testing the basics of the students sitting for the examination. The more you read about a concept, the more you realise how each and every concept is applied to different questions. Hence, you must conquer this first step and only then move ahead.
  • Time management: You must allocate near to equal time to all the three subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a special focus on your weak subject. With the question paper carrying equal weight-age, not giving enough time to all the subjects could put you in trouble.
  • Define your study material: Studying from too many sources often causes chaos and confusion. You should refrain from repeatedly studying the same concepts from different sources and instead stick to the few well known and established reference books. It is always better to evolve a concept through problem-solving rather than just reading textbooks.
  • Know your strengths and weaknesses: Your preparation is strictly governed by self-analysis. If you fail to find loopholes in your concepts or shy away from revisiting your mistakes, it is not going to do you any good. Knowing your weaknesses allows you to work on your weak concepts, so ask doubts and probe further into concepts. Leave no stone unturned!
  • Simulating examination: Take help of UPTU UPSEE previous years’ question papers, mock test papers, and of course, test series, and practice them under timed conditions. It is also important to adapt your body clock to the examination timings so that you can deliver your best in that duration. The more you are stick to time restrictions, the better equipped you are to handle your performance in the exam.
  • Revision notes: Lastly, make proper notes of concepts that require regular revision. These could be mathematical formulae or important chemical reactions; basically, anything that is important and is expected to be remembered for the exam. These notes help you in your last minute preparation and helps you to quickly go through the concepts.
