In Uttarakhand there are 15,331 primary schools with 1,040,139 students and 22,118 working teachers (Year 2011). Literacy rate of the state was 79.63% with 88.33% literacy for males and 70.70% literacy for females. The language of instruction in the schools is either English or Hindi. There are mainly government and private schools and institutions including primary schools, high schools, inter college, degree colleges and technical institutions. The main school affiliations are CBSE, CISCE or the State Government syllabus defined by the Department of Education of the Government of Uttarakhand. - 9 February 1996: Regional office of the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad was established at Ramnagar, Uttarakhand.
- 1999: For the first time exams were conducted under the regional office at Ramnagar for Garhwal division and Kumaon division.
- 22 September 2001: Uttaranchal Shiksha Evam Pariksha Parishad was established followed by the foundation of new state Uttaranchal from erstwhile Uttar Pradesh.
- 2002: For the first time exams were conducted under Uttaranchal Shiksha Evam Pariksha Parishad.
- 22 April 2006: Uttaranchal Board of School Education was created by Uttaranchal School Education Act, 2006 enacted by the Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly.
- 11 December 2008: The institution was renamed Uttarakhand Board of School Education.

Uttarakhand Board 10th Time Table 2018 will be published in the month of January 2018. Uttarakhand Board of Secondary Education conducts the board exams on annual or semester bases in UK state.
