VIT at a Glance

VIT University or VIT, formerly known as the Vellore Engineering College, was established with the aim of providing quality higher education on par with international standards. The engineering college that started with an intake of 180 students in 1984 has evolved into a university with two campuses. It persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education on a consistent basis. The campus has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with students from all corners of the globe. Experienced and learned teachers are strongly encouraged to nurture the students. They provide an exchange of students and faculty and encourage joint research projects for the mutual benefit of these universities.

VIT was established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, and was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred the University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The University is headed by its founder and Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government. In recognition of his service to India in offering world class education, he was conferred an honorary doctorate by the West Virginia University, USA. Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan, and G.V. Selvam are the Vice-Presidents; Dr. Anand A. Samuel is the Vice-Chancellor and Dr. V. Raju and Dr. S. Narayanan are the Pro-Vice-Chancellors.

The university offers 27 Undergraduate, 30 Postgraduate, Four Integrated Programs, and Four Research programs. In addition to full-time/part-time Ph.D., M.S. VIT University conducts VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) to grant admissions to its various UG engineering programs. VITEEE 2017 slot booking opened in the 3rd week of March. Admissions to the highly sought-after B. Tech degrees from VIT University are achieved by successfully getting through the VITEEE examination conducted every year. The students based on their merit are given a range of options to pursue their under graduation degree. The university currently offers 27 undergraduate programs, and in addition to this has recently launched the B. Arch degree for students willing to pursue Architecture. The admission into the B. Arch degree is procured through a successful NATA score. Many research centers are also part of the schools, which promote inter-departmental collaboration and provide a platform for students to delve into new research projects.

VITEEE Eligibility

  • Candidates appearing for the VITEEE should have either completed or shall be appearing, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
    • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi) The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination -ISCE, New Delhi.
    •  Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
    •  High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    •  General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    •  As per VIT Norms, NIOS candidates are eligible to appear for the VITEEE. They should produce Migration cum Transfer Certificate as a proof of student of NIOS Board.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).
  • For SC/ST category candidates and those belonging the North Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum aggregate requirement is 50%.
  • Candidates should be born on or after July 1, 1996. Candidates should produce their certificate in original as a proof of their age at the time of counselling, failing for which they will be disqualified.
  • Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full Time and Formal Education are only eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all the B.Tech. Programmes.
  • Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for B.Tech. Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology programmes. They are also eligible for B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Spec. in Bioinformatics) but only after joining, registering Mathematics as bridge course.

VITEEE  Pattern

VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) will be conducted in online mode only. The exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) that is held in centers spread across the country and also abroad. . The medium of question paper will be english only. The exam pattern will be of objective type. All questions will be of objective type and no negative marking will  be there.

Exam will have four sections namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and English and will be conducted within 2 hours and 30 minutes.

VITEEE Counselling 2017

The counselling process for VITEEE 2017 phase I was conducted from May 10 to 12 as per candidates ranks, counselling for Phase II was held between May 15 and May 22. The counselling was only meant for candidates who have appeared in the online engineering entrance exam conducted by VIT University for admission to its Chennai and Vellore campuses. VITEEE 2017 counselling had been scheduled for different dates based on candidates’ ranks, i.e.: candidates within a certain range of ranks are called for appearing in VITEEE counselling 2017 on different dates. Also, all the qualifying candidates of VITEEE 2017 will be provided B.Tech seats at the university based on their merit and branch preferences. VITEEE 2017 Counselling Procedure

  • Please note that the candidates can attempt the VITEEE counselling 2017 only once.
  • A change of branch/campus will strictly not be allowed.
  • VIT Counselling and seat/branch allocation to the short-listed candidates is based on their All India Rank (AIR) in VITEEE 2017.
  • The selection and admission procedure is same (through single window counselling) across all campuses of VIT University – Vellore/Chennai/Bhopal (MP)/Amaravathi (AP). Shortlisted candidates can attend the counselling in any of the four campuses.
  • For participating in VITEEE 2017 counselling, students have to register in any of the counselling venues and choose any campus/branch as per the availability based on VITEEE 2017 ranking.
  • Candidates will be permitted to attend the counselling only with a DD of Rs.50,000 in favour of ‘VIT University’, payable at Vellore, once the seat is confirmed and branch is allotted. They will have to pay Rs.12,000 (service tax included) towards the counselling and processing fee. The counselling and processing fee is non-refundable, but it will be adjusted in the academic fees once the candidate joins the university. Candidates have to pay the balance fee on or before June 12, 2017 (either through DD or online).
  • Candidates who need hostel have to submit a separate crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 21,000 (Hostel fee Advance Rs.20,000 + Processing fee Rs.1,000 non-refundable).
  • Candidates can enjoy the scholarships only when they join the Institute.

Rank-wise VITEEE 2017 Counselling Eligibility

  • Candidates with a rank in the range of 1 and 99999 in VITEEE-2017 will be eligible to take part in counselling for admission in Vellore / Chennai / Bhopal (MP) / VIT-AP.
  • Candidates with a rank of 100000 and ABOVE in VITEEE-2017 will not be eligible for admission in Vellore / Chennai / VIT-AP.
  • VIT- Bhopal: Candidates who get a rank above 150000 are only eligible to attend the counselling for admission in Bhopal (MP).
