WBJEE 2018 Application form – WBJEEB

The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation courses by WBJEEB. The exam can be taken by those who studied Pure Science stream in plus two level with the specific subjects tested in the examination, which are PhysicsChemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. There are actually two separate tests for medical (also called WBJEE Medical) and engineering (also called WBJEE), the difference being that the medical test has the Biology paper while the engineering test has the Mathematics paper as explained by WBJEEB.

The application form is categorised into two sections which are:

  • Personal details
  • Fee payment details

After the candidate filled and submitted his/her personal details, the system generated a unique 7-digit numeric application number for the candidate. Once a WBJEE Application Number is generated, the candidate will be able to log out from the system.

The candidates are advised by WBJEEB to use this system generated Application Number along with his/her date of birth for any future login to the system. So, it is important that the candidate store his application number accurately.

Corresponding to the type of application submitted, the candidate has to pay the application fee. The fee candidates have to pay is mentioned below:

WBJEE 2018 exam

Mode of examination

WBJEE 2018 is a common entrance examination in offline (pen and paper mode). By pen and paper mode it means that question paper will be provided in paper format (hard copy). Candidates who appear in the exam will mark answers in an OMR answer sheet which will be provided to them in the exam hall. A sample OMR sheet may be obtained from WBJEEB website for practice purpose. In an OMR sheet, there will be bubbles/circles in front of a question number, which has to be filled in to indicate the answer. The bubble must be completely filled so that OMR reader machine can know that candidate has marked that as an answer.

Candidates have to answer the exam questions on their OMR Answer Sheets which is readable by the machine. Candidates have to encircle the bubble of the correct answer using blue/black ball point pen only.

There are three separate merit lists for WBJEE exam for engineering medical and pharmacy entrance exams (this was not applicable to Jadavpur University).
The merit list for candidates who cleared the Engineering entrance exam is prepared on the basis of their score in WBJEE exam. However, in case a thereof tie, the below-mentioned criteria is used as a tie-breaker:

  • Less negative marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Physics taken together
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics and Chemistry taken together
  • More positive marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Mathematics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions

Tie-breaking Rule for Merit Rank List-II(PMR): applicable for Pharmacy Merit Rank:

  • Less negative marks in Physics & Chemistry
  • More positive marks in Chemistry
  • Less negative marks in Chemistry
  • More positive marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Chemistry for only the 2 marks questions
  • More positive marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions
  • Less negative marks in Physics for only the 2 marks questions.

Final Tie-breaking for Merit List-I (GMR) and Merit List-II (PMR):

  • After application of the Tie-breaking Rules as applicable if there be still ties, the same will be broken by the date of birth (DOB) of the candidates, with the older candidate having preference over the younger one. This is applicable for both the GMR and PMR

WBJEE 2018 Exam Pattern

In all the objective type questions (Multiple Choice Questions, or the MCQs), there are four options against each question, wherein you have to mark the correct answer(s) on the OMR sheet provided to you separately. Go through the table below to understand the test pattern of WBJEE 2018.

Subject Category 1 Category 2 Category 3 Total MCQ Total Marks
Physics 30 x 1 mark 5 x 2 marks 5 x 2 marks 40 50
Chemistry 30 x 1 mark 5 x 2 marks 5 x 2 marks 40 50
Mathematics 50 x 1 mark 15 x 2 marks 10 x 2 marks 75 100

For each of the subjects, there are the following three categories of questions:

  1. Category 1: Each single answer type question of one mark each, with a negative marking of -0.25. There are 60 such questions in maths, 30 in physics and 30 in chemistry.
  2. Category 2: Each single answer type question of two marks each, with a negative marking of -0.5. There are 10 such questions in maths, 5 in physics and 5 in chemistry.
  3. Category 3: Each multiple answer type question carrying two marks each with no negative marking. Here the marks will be awarded for partially correct answers, but no marks will be awarded if even one wrong answer is marked. There are 10 such questions in maths, 5 in physics and 5 in chemistry.

WBJEE 2018 Exam Centres

The WBJEE 2018 is expected to take place across several cities in West Bengal and also in Tripura, Agartala, Assam, and Silchar. Although you can give three choices of the exam centres among the available options, it might also happen that the students may not be allocated their first choice centre due to an insufficient number of seats at that respective centre. However, they might be allocated their second or third choice of centre depending on the seat availability. Because of the same reason, the candidates are advised to fill up their choices as early as possible.
