Important Chapters

In NEET 2017, most of the questions were asked from NCERT. So, let’s look at the sections that had the maximum importance in the last National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG).

Important NEET Topics for Physics

Mechanics is the most important topic. 12-13 questions were asked on it last time.

Chapter Times Concepts Asked Percentage Concepts Asked
Ray Optics 36 6.4
Electrostatics 34 6.04
Semiconductors and Communication System 34 6.04
Photoelectric Effect and Electromagnetic Waves 33 5.86
Rotational Motion 32 5.68

Laws of Thermodynamics 31 5.50
Waves and Sound 30 5.32
Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current 27 4.79
Magnetic Effects of Current 27 4.79

Important NEET Topics for Chemistry

Organic Chemistry dominates the chemistry question paper. 14-15 questions were from topics related to it.

Chapter Times Concepts Asked Percentage Concepts Asked
Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure 37 10.05
General Organic Chemistry 25 6.8
p Block Elements 22 5.97
Alkanes, Alkenes and Alkynes (Hydrocarbons) 20 5.43

Ionic Equilibrium 15 4.07
Chemical Thermodynamics 13 3.53
d and f Block Elements 12 3.26
Haloalkanes 12 3.26

Important NEET Topics for Biology

There was a more uniform distribution of questions in Biology. There was no single unit or topic from which more than 6 questions were asked. Hence it would be wrong to deem any one single chapter most important as all are important.

Chapter Times Concepts Asked Percentage Concepts Asked
Principles of Inheritance and Variation 39 7.53
Cell – The Unit of Life 38 7.34
Biological Classification 28 5.41
Morphology of Flowering Plants 28 5.41
Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants 28 5.41

Human Health and Disease 18 3.47
Human Reproduction 18 3.47
Environmental Issues 17 3.28
Chemical Coordination and Integration 16 3.09
Digestion and Absorption 16 3.09

So, all the chapters mentioned in NEET 2018 Syllabus are important. As per past years’ papers, it can be safely concluded that mechanics (in Physics), organic chemistry (in Chemistry), and Ecology (in Biology) are crucial for NEET 2018.

Also, pay attention to principles of Inheritance and Variation, Cell – The Unit of Life, Morphology of Flowering Plants, Biological Classification, Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants; Electrostatics, Ray Optics, Photoelectric Effect and Electromagnetic Waves, Semiconductors and communication System, Rotational Motion; Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, p Block Elements, Alkanes, Alkenes, General Organic Chemistry and Alkynes.
