  • 0:4hello students in this lesson we shall
  • 0:7be talking about what's the connection
  • 0:9between plastic and the environment is
  • 0:10plastic causing harm to the environment
  • 0:13or is it beneficial let's find that out
  • 0:16now before that we will start a concept
  • 0:19known as biodegradable materials and non
  • 0:22biodegradable materials let's see that
  • 0:25so let's talk about these two things
  • 0:26first
  • 0:27now whatever garbage we have at home we
  • 0:30throw it okay and where does it go from
  • 0:33the place we threw it now these things
  • 0:36get decomposed by the action of bacteria
  • 0:39many things but there are many things
  • 0:42which don't
  • 0:43so things which can easily be decomposed
  • 0:45naturally and easily that they are
  • 0:48called biodegradable that means they are
  • 0:50decomposed as they are split into
  • 0:52simpler simpler substances which are not
  • 0:54hazardous for the environment okay and
  • 0:57like this can happen through natural
  • 0:58processes and non biodegradable
  • 1:0materials are those which cannot be
  • 1:3decomposed easily and not naturally if
  • 1:6if you have to burn them also and
  • 1:9decompose them it causes a lot of air
  • 1:12pollution so they are non biodegradable
  • 1:13material so what is plastic is it
  • 1:16biodegradable or non biodegradable let's
  • 1:20find that out by seeing some examples
  • 1:22first now in this category all the
  • 1:24biodegradable materials I have written
  • 1:26the first one is peels of vegetables and
  • 1:29fruits
  • 1:29okay the peels that we remove and just
  • 1:31throw it off and even the food leftover
  • 1:33things we eat and things which are left
  • 1:36behind are called
  • 1:37leftovers so these things when are they
  • 1:40are thrown in the bin and then thrown at
  • 1:42the place where all the garbage is
  • 1:43collected how are they decomposed it
  • 1:45decompose naturally and within one to
  • 1:48two weeks they get decomposed and they
  • 1:51split into simpler substances which do
  • 1:53not cause harm to the environment okay
  • 1:56paper takes one to thirty days we think
  • 2:0to 30 30 days to decompose so it's not a
  • 2:3very big time cotton clothes take two to
  • 2:6three months to decompose and woolen
  • 2:9clothes take a year to decompose and
  • 2:11what about wood wood takes about ten to
  • 2:14fifteen years to decompose
  • 2:17it biodegradable yes it is it is still
  • 2:19called biodegradable but when we talk
  • 2:21about non biodegradable things they take
  • 2:24more than 100 years or 100 years to
  • 2:26decompose like for example the metal
  • 2:29cans you know there are many many things
  • 2:33which are made up of metal that we keep
  • 2:35in our houses but they get corroded very
  • 2:37easily they get spoiled so we just throw
  • 2:39them out
  • 2:39so these cans wherever they go they have
  • 2:42to be decomposed otherwise they will be
  • 2:44get they will get accumulated on earth
  • 2:45but they take hundreds of years to be
  • 2:49degraded we what do you say decomposed
  • 2:52okay so 100 of years but where whatever
  • 2:57plastic it takes more than 100 years to
  • 3:4get decomposed so that's why plastic is
  • 3:7a non biodegradable material remember
  • 3:10naturally you cannot and after
  • 3:12decomposing also it caused it it splits
  • 3:15into various things which are has it is
  • 3:17further environment so these are non
  • 3:19biodegradable materials now because
  • 3:21plastic has many advantages we use it
  • 3:25continuously every day in everything but
  • 3:28we have to take care at the same time
  • 3:30that it is non biodegradable now let's
  • 3:32see what are the disadvantages of using
  • 3:34this plastic the first problem in using
  • 3:37plastic is that it is non biodegradable
  • 3:39so it causes a lot of pollution
  • 3:41environmental pollution it causes both
  • 3:49water and air pollution let's see how
  • 3:51whenever we throw the waste of plastic
  • 3:54many a times we dispose it in water
  • 3:56bodies right so when they go in the
  • 3:58water bodies the aquatic animals living
  • 4:0there swallow them okay they try to eat
  • 4:3the plastic so due to which it becomes a
  • 4:6lot of problem for them they die too and
  • 4:8that is why we say a plastics cause
  • 4:11water pollution because you don't get
  • 4:12decompose also in water and this fall
  • 4:14the entire water okay then you have it
  • 4:17causes air pollution how because when
  • 4:19you burn plastic it releases
  • 4:26poisonous fumes that's why we should not
  • 4:33we should avoid using plastics okay but
  • 4:36and these fumes cause us a lot many
  • 4:39problems when you inhale them okay and
  • 4:41the next thing is without it without any
  • 4:44thinking for a second we just throw the
  • 4:45plastic wrappers here and there then in
  • 4:48the bin we have so many plastic bags and
  • 4:50you know that the animals on the street
  • 4:51are always hungry they're always looking
  • 4:53for food so when they eat the food with
  • 4:56that they even swallow plastic because
  • 4:58they don't know it is a plastic thing by
  • 5:0plastic waste so due to which what
  • 5:2happens is plastic cause harm to animals
  • 5:12which swallow swallow it okay what
  • 5:21happens is chokes respiratory system it
  • 5:24chokes they're desperate or a system
  • 5:26they are barely able to breathe then
  • 5:29okay forms lining in this digestive
  • 5:37system due to which they can even die so
  • 5:43we are using plastic for our own benefit
  • 5:45and then we are killing animals as well
  • 5:47with that so it's not really good to use
  • 5:50plastic in a lot of amount because it's
  • 5:53getting just accumulated everywhere it's
  • 5:55not getting decomposed now let's see
  • 5:57what are the precautions that we can
  • 5:58take while using plastic there was a
  • 6:1responsible citizen what we can do is we
  • 6:4can use the for our principle so that we
  • 6:7can do something about this
  • 6:8environmental pollution caused by
  • 6:10plastic for our principle what is it
  • 6:18what are these four are standing for
  • 6:20recycle reuse reduce and recover now
  • 6:31remember that the plastic that we are
  • 6:32using is not getting decomposed so what
  • 6:36we can do is we can reuse the plastic by
  • 6:38recycling them so take all the plastic
  • 6:41waste recycle it and then reuse it again
  • 6:43when you when you're dumping it
  • 6:45somewhere collect all those plastic
  • 6:46things recycle and reuse so this will
  • 6:49you know this will not cause
  • 6:50environmental pollution also and we will
  • 6:53get the plastic to use as much as we
  • 6:54want so that will be that should be a
  • 6:57mantra okay that is rig recycle reuse
  • 7:0reduce and recover now we can add
  • 7:2recycle thermoplastic easily because we
  • 7:13can bend they can melt they can be
  • 7:14heated etc so these can be reused very
  • 7:17well okay recycle very well then you
  • 7:19have what can be done from our own side
  • 7:22okay so what we can do is reduce the
  • 7:27usage of plastic how can we do that
  • 7:32first thing is we take different boxes
  • 7:36and many things made up of plastic
  • 7:37instead of that take steel lunch boxes
  • 7:45then carry cotton or jute bag for
  • 7:53shopping so when we reduce using plastic
  • 7:59a lot many problems will be sort even
  • 8:2remember plastics can cause floods to
  • 8:5because it gets accumulated in one place
  • 8:7and the water cannot pass through so I
  • 8:9hope it'll clear with all these things
  • 8:11why plastic causes a lot of Hinn
  • 8:14environmental problems and what we can
  • 8:17do to reduce the uses of usage of
  • 8:19plastic here we come to the end of our
  • 8:21session
