The derivation of the word kinetics is from the Greek word ‘kinesis’ which means movement. In contrast to thermodynamics which tells a reaction’s feasibility, chemical kinetics tells about the rate of a reaction. For example, thermodynamics indicates that diamond converts to graphite. However, in reality, this change is not perceptible because it is too slow. Consequently, many people think that a diamond is forever. Kinetics not only determine the speed of a reaction but it also informs the conditions which affect these rates. Furthermore, these factors can be temperature, concentration, catalyst, and pressure. Moreover, chemical kinetics notes also deals with the average and instantaneous rate of reaction. Also, some reactions like ionic reactions happen at a very fast rate. In contrast, some reactions like iron rusting are very slow.
