CBSE Class 6 Science Chapter 5 – Separation of Substances Revision Notes
In the Separation of Substances class 6 notes, we will learn the separation process, the purpose for separation and what all components can be separated from different materials such as solids, liquids or gases. Then, we will be discussing the different methods of separation. This would include gaining knowledge about Handpicking, Threshing, Winnowing, Sieving methods of Separation. However, we will learn that lighter impurities require the process of sedimentation and decantation for their removal. Furthermore, we will learn about the filtration method. Then, we will learn about evaporation as a process to separate a mixture of water and salt. We will also study about condensation and its uses.
Then, we will learn about the saturated solution in which no more of a substance can be dissolved. Also, we will learn that more of a substance can be dissolved by heating it. Also, we will know that water dissolves different amounts of soluble substances in it.
Sub-Topics Covered under Separation of Substances:
- Methods of Separation: In this sub-topic, we will learn about the methods of separation. Thus, we will acquire knowledge about Handpicking, Threshing, Winnowing, Sieving methods of Separation. Moreover, sedimentation and decantation methods will be learned. Also, we will understand the concepts of filtration, evaporation, and condensation.
- Purpose of Separation of Substances: In this sub-topic, we will learn about the purpose of separation of substances. We will learn that it is done to separate two different but useful components. Also, to removal non-useful and harmful components.
- Reversible and Irreversible Changes: We will learn about the changes that can happen backward and vice-versa.
