When a person has more than one PAN card, he or she may face severe penalties or, in the worst-case scenario, imprisonment. According to income tax regulations of the Indian Government, a person/entity should only have one PAN number. Every individual and business entity that has more than one PAN card in their name has been forced to cancel or surrender their additional PAN cards. To do so, a PAN card cancellation request letter must be written. We will look at how to write a PAN card cancellation request letter and look at some sample letters in this article.
PAN Card Cancellation Request Letter
When an individual has more than one PAN card, the Government of India may penalize them according to the law. Individuals are only allowed to have one PAN card, according to Section 139A of the Income Tax Act of 1961. Section 272B of the Income Tax Act empowers the Income Tax Officer to levy a penalty of INR 10,000 on any individual who has more than one PAN card.
If you lose your old PAN card or have multiple PANs, you must close the other PANs by writing a PAN card cancellation request letter to your local Income Tax Assessing Officer. If you are a firm that is no longer in operation, you must also close the PAN of that firm.
How to Surrender a PAN Card
You can surrender your other PAN numbers either online or offline, but the offline method is more efficient. You must write a request letter to your local income tax assessing officer to surrender or cancel your currently used PAN / PAN of the firm.
Format for PAN Card Cancellation Request Letter
