A relieving letter signifies that the candidate has fulfilled all his duties and responsibilities with the previous employer and is now relieved from the organisation.

 Relieving Letter – Writing Guidelines and Tips

  • It is an official document and hence the tone shall be formal.
  • The information about the employee shall be written concisely. The full name of the employee, employee ID, his/her designation, his/her department and name of the organisation need to be mentioned.
  • It should be issued on the letterhead of the organisation.
  • The date of issuance of the letter should be mentioned clearly.
  • The date of relieving the employee should also be mentioned.
  • The employer may also include a statement of appreciation for the contributions made by the employee.
  • Employer must ensure the employee that all his/her dues will be cleared within the stipulated time.
  • The employer shall sign the letter at the end.

Answer. A relieving letter is an official document issued by the employer on the Company’s letterhead to the employee at the time of his/her leaving the organisation. It states that the candidate has served his/her notice period and has completed all the duties and responsibilities during the period of the service. It is also known as an experience letter as it states the tenure of employment i.e the date of commencement and termination of service.
