Non-Verbal Series

Design Change Series

Design Change Series questions are very important for testing the reasoning ability of a candidate. In the Design Change Series section, you will encounter questions that have a series of patterns mostly in the form of graphics and you will have to answer a concept about these designs. The designs may follow a sequence or a rule that you will have to predict and detect. Let us see all the concepts and different types of questions that you will find in this section.

Design Change Series

Like other series, design change series also has a figure question wherein five figures will be given to you and you need to understand the pattern and follow the same to find the answer. The difference in design series questions will be the shapes and figures in the question. They can be anything and the relationship between the figures won’t be straightforward. In design change series questions it is important that you forget anything else and just concentrate on the question on your screen. This type of questions requires a lot of your attention and concentration. Because there are many minute changes between the figure that it is important that you see them clearly.

Example of the Arc

Q. Which of the following figure will follow the same pattern as given in the question figure?

Question figure                                   Answer figure

A) 1               B) 2                    C) 3                  D) 4              E) 5

Answer: For this question, a line and an arc are given in the first figure. This is followed by two more arcs in the next and than the arcs and their position goes on changing. When you compare the first and the second figure you will note that a laterally inverted to the one in figure 1 is added and another arc is added in the opposite direction. Now the first arcs of figure 2 are again inverted laterally and the third arc comes in the right end corner. Now again the arcs are inverted laterally and the third moves on the top left-hand side of the horizontal axis and a new arc is added in the opposite direction.

For the final figure, the two arcs are once again inverted laterally, the third arc moves towards the middle of the upper side of the horizontal axis and the fourth arc moves towards the top left-hand side of the axis. The new arc is added in the opposite side of the axis. For the required answer, start by inverting the two arcs. So option 1 and 2 are negated. Now the third moves towards the top right-hand side of the axis. This is the same in all the 3 remaining options. The fourth arc will also move towards the middle of the horizontal axis. Now only two options are remaining. The fifth will be added to the top left-hand side and a new arc is formed in the opposite direction of the axis. These conditions are only in figure 3. So the correct answer is option C.

Example of the Square

Q. Select a figure that will be most suitable to continue the series given in the question figure.

Question figure                                   Answer figure

A) 1              B) 2            C) 3             D) 4                   E) 4

Answer: In the given question, a right angle is given in the first figure, a box and a half completed square in the second figure and so on. Here shapes and design are changing in each figure. The best way to go around solving this question is to count the number of sides or lines given in each figure.

In the first figure, there are 2 lines. In second there are 7, in the third figure there are 12 lines and there are 17 and 22 lines in figure 4 and 5 respectively. So you have established that in each figure there is an increase of 5 lines. But we add them in the anti-clockwise direction in each of the figures. So the required answer will have 27 lines and an incomplete square in the bottom right corner of the figure. This is available in figure 5. So the correct answer is figure 5.
