To score good marks in any competitive exams you need to cover a variety of topics. You need to try and solve as many questions as you can. But in visual reasoning, there is no formula you can use to solve the questions. Thus the questions from this section become very important because you need to develop an approach to solve such questions. And today our topic is on the series based questions from multi-relational series.

Multi-Relational Series
Like other series, the questions from this topic are also figure based. You are given a set of figures and based on these figures you need to establish a relationship between them and find the answer accordingly. In multi-relational series, there are many multiple relationships between the figure. You have to check which of the answer figures is a better fit. Below are the solved examples which can help you understand the topic better.
Solved Examples
Q. Given below is the set of five figures. Based on the question establish a relationship among them and see which figure will continue as the answer figure.

(a)     (b)     (c)     (d)    (e)      (1)     (2)     (3)     (4)    (5) Question figure                       Answer figure
A. 1Â Â Â Â Â B. 2Â Â Â Â Â C. 3Â Â Â Â Â Â Â D. 4Â Â Â Â Â Â Â E. 5
Answer: In the given question, every square has four different shapes. And in some of them, the shapes are inverted. When you look closely at the figures, you will see that the first and the third figure is in the same direction, while the second and fourth are in the same direction.
Now in the first and third figure, out of the four shapes, 1st and 3rd interchange their positions. While the other two shapes remain exactly the same. Also, in the 3rd and 5th figure where the shapes are in the same direction, again the 1st and 3rd shapes interchanges their position.
As the required answer will be the 6th figure it will follow the rules from the 2nd and 4th figure. Thus it will be in the inverted direction. In the 2nd figure, the position of the shapes is in the reverse direction. The 1st shape will be last, the 2nd will be second last and so on. For 2nd and 4th again the position of 1st and 3rd are interchanged and the rest remains the same. Similarly, the 6th figure will also have 1st and 3rd shape interchanged. So, the required answer is option B.
Example of Interchanging Shapes
Q. From the given figures, find the suitable figure that will establish the relationship between the question figures and find the answer figure accordingly.

(a)     (b)     (c)     (d)    (e)      (1)     (2)     (3)     (4)    (5) Question figure                       Answer figure
A. 1
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
E. 5
Answer: From the given figures you can observe that the there is a unique shape in each of the five squares. But still, we will look for clues and establish the relationship between them. In the first and the second figure, the shapes given in the squares are interchanged and you can see that the smaller square in the first square is enlarged in the second square.
Similarly, the two shapes given in the third square are repeating in the fourth square. And similarly, in the third and fourth figure, the shapes are interchanging with the smaller shape being enlarged and the larger shape is small. Thus, in the fifth figure, the two shapes given will be interchanged in the answer figure and the smaller figure will be enlarged and vice versa. This is given in the option E. Thus, option E is the correct answer.
