Why are Lysosomes known as Suicidal Bags?

Lysosomes are known as suicide bags of cell because it contains digestive enzymes. Lysosomes are organelles. Christian de Duve coined the term “suicidal bags of cell” to explain the Lysosomes. If something burst, the lysosomes release digestive enzymes with digests all the cells. This leads to the death of cells. Hence, Lysosomes are referred to as “suicide bags of cell”.

Lysosomes Definition

Lysosomes are very small cell organelles. They are found in the nucleus-bearing or eukaryotic cells. Furthermore, they are found in the cytosol of the cells. Ones that float freely inside the cells outside the nucleus. Lysosome function is of utmost importance for cells.
